The Australian Honey Bee Industry Council, the peak industry body for Apiculture in Australia, has won the right to host the 2007 International Federation of Beekeeping Organisations “Apimondia” Congress in Melbourne in September 2007. Australia’s bid succeeded by a margin of 29 votes to 19, overcoming an opposing bid from Argentina during the 2003 bi-annual Apimondia Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 24-29 August. Apimondia Congresses bring together apiarists, scientists, apiculture equipment manufacturers and honey packers who present on topics of relevance to the worldwide honey industry, including beekeeping in developing countries, bee biology and pathology, bee technology and equipment, pollination, and quality assurance. In addition, apiculture equipment manufacturers exhibit the various specialist machinery and equipment available, which is vital to the modern-day practices of quality food production.
