103. Socceroos, Olyroos, Matildas, Australian Soccer,
Criticisms of the media representation of soccer in Australia
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Stadium/6954
Ever Wondered Why So Many Austral ian Foot ballers Play Overseas? Go to page 2 Update Views from the government funded Australian Broadcasting Corporation: In the lead up the 1998 Grand Final the ABC used the 'transvestite wogball' approach in James O'Brian's segment
'What's on in Sport '. A typical strategy by the organisation. Of course he never includes football (soccer) in his programs. Then when rugby league (packielackey) players smear human poo all over hotel walls (Feb 1999) he says "It has nothing to do with it (packielackey game to be played on the weekend)."
This type of treatment by the Australian media of Australian football (soccer) is typical. There is one rule for soccer and another for packielackey and tiddleywinks. Previous comments in the ABC such as: "Blacks don't play cricket in South Africa because it takes three lots of co-ordination to play cricket:
hand, eye and foot while only two to play soccer: hand and eye. In time the blacks will learn the
game." ABC Radio report from a one day international NZ vs SA. ;

Today's Featured Wine - Battely Syrah 2002 Battely Syrah
"Bourne has made two vintages of syrah so far, and each is a different style. The 2001 is a mighty beast, which Parker awarded 96 points (not bad going for a first vintage). The 2002 has aromas of leather, liqurice, boot polish and a little stemminess (5% whole bunches) leading on to a palate with the texture of softly brushed suede. As well as the wonderful juiciness there is a richness of flavour and excellent length. It is a wine that dances across the palate.

Simply great Shiraz 2002 Tin Shed Single Wire Shiraz
$47 pb limited as ever unfortunately
This is one of the new breed of Barossa Shiraz, intense and powerful fruit, with the usual regional chocolate edges, but with new and old French oak rather than American oak, and boy, does that work well. Power and depth are here in spades, but along with this comes style and balance. A glass stainer, with the deepest red purple colour, the nose is all Shiraz, perfectly ripened fruit - plums, black and bark berries, spices, liquorice and hints melted chocolate all blend together with dusted vanilla from the oak .. lovely. The palate is full and rich, filling the mouth with a mix of berries and plums plus spice and vanilla, fine tannin on a finish that goes on and on. Great wine.

Agu, 1996 Bronze urns dug from the Victorian goldfields, a queue ("pigtail") cut off its wearer last century, and the debutante balls of the Young Chinese League from the 1930's evoke some of the richness of the Chinese contribution to Australia's history. A living part of Melbourne's modern Chinatown, the Chinese Museum was brought into being in 1985 to document, preserve and display the history of Australians of Chinese descent. An exiting range of changing exhibitions, audiovisual presentations, heritage tours and public seminars are some of the ways by which Australia's Chinese community shares its past, its culture, and its values with wide society, through the Museum.
