Peter Griffen works and lives in his studio and also enjoys working en plein air in various parts of the world, especially in the outback of Australia. Investigation, Influences and Distractions The art of Peter Griffen is influenced as much by the classical painting of the Rennaisance as by the the serendipity of abstract expressionism. Indigenous art from different parts of the world (in particular Australia) and its relationship to the natural landscape influence his work also, producing powerful abstact images that speak from the past. Agu, 1996 Bronze urns dug from the Victorian goldfields, a queue ("pigtail") cut off its wearer last century, and the debutante balls of the Young Chinese League from the 1930's evoke some of the richness of the Chinese contribution to Australia's history. A living part of Melbourne's modern Chinatown, the Chinese Museum was brought into being in 1985 to document, preserve and display the history of Australians of Chinese descent. An exiting range of changing exhibitions, audiovisual presentations, heritage tours and public seminars are some of the ways by which Australia's Chinese community shares its past, its culture, and its values with wide society, through the Museum.

The Museum was founded by the Cooroora Historical Society in 1985 mainly as a means to preserve what was rapidly disappearing of the past. Housed in the Museum is an expansive and impressive collection of Photographs capturing many moments of the pioneering past as well as modern moments that will one day be an important part of Pomona History. There is something to appeal to almost everyone amongst the Museum's displays. Those who wonder where the technological age is taking us, will appreciate The Post Office Exhibit - based on a photo of the Pomona Post Office in 1916.

    Saturday, June 05, 2004 :::
    Back in Singapore at the moment on my way back home to Sweden. I arrived here two days ago and spent yesterday in the company of Don Bosco . We spent a lot of time discussing the state of the art. We visited a electronic arts group, , who are behind the Year of Living Digitally Festival. I took their Little India audio tour called Desire Paths, which was more like a location based interactive installation in real time than a tour. If anyone finds themselves in Singapore go to 65 Kerbau Road and partake in this beautiful interpretation of space.
    I am really looking foward to getting home. This trip has been full of inspiration and I now wish to put some of the ideas and plans I have had (alone and with others) into material form. This summer is going to be excellent.

    Barry Humphries
    Mark Strizic
    Image courtesy of the National Library of Australia Barry Humphries is first and foremost a comedian and satirist – one of the funniest and most loved performers Australia has produced. Humphries has been a part of our cultural landscape for close to 50 years and has captured the hearts of millions of people from all around the world. Barry Humphries was born in suburban Melbourne in 1934. From a young age he used to spend hours dressing up and inventing his own characters. School was not a totally enjoyable experience – ‘It was quite hard teaching me because I interrupted a lot and didn't always do my homework’ – and comedy became a means of expressing himself and achieving acceptance among his peers: ... entertaining people gave me a great feeling of release, making people laugh was a very good way of befriending them. People couldn't hit you, could they, if they were laughing.
