I used to be a kid, and I never outgrew it. This, in my opinion, is the essence of becoming a "good teacher." Good teaching can only be achieved with sensitivity, creativity, love and laughter. My childhood experiences, coupled with my adventures in parenting have taught me that if you use the right methods, you are bound to see miracles. As the parent of five children, two of whom have attention deficit disorders, I am a self styled "aggravation expert!" The methods, discoveries and anecdotes in the following pages are a result of my experiences as both a parent and a teacher.
Attention Deficit Disorders are being diagnosed in as many as 12-20% of our children. If you, or someone you love has been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, you're in very good company. There's nothing wrong with your gene-pool you've simply been hand- picked by Divine Intelligence to learn that wherever there's a problem, there is also a solution.
In the following pages, I have presented some possible solutions, methods and miracles for the academic, social and emotional development of children who have ADD. These ideas have worked for me, and I'm betting that they'll work for you too. All of my ideas are in sync with Universal Law, which can be easily taught to children of all ages.

Contents of this page: Alternative names ADD; ADHD; Childhood hyperkinesis Definition Return to top ADHD is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity, impulsivity, or a combination. For these problems to be diagnosed as ADHD, they must be out of the normal range for the child's age and development. Causes, incidence, and risk factors Return to top ADHD affects school performance and relationships with others. Parents of children with ADHD are often exhausted and frustrated. Scientific studies, using advanced neuroimaging techniques of brain structure and function, show that the brains of children with ADHD are different from those of other children. These children handle neurotransmitters (including dopamine, serotonin, and adrenalin) differently from their peers. ADHD is often genetic. Whatever the specific cause may be, it seems to be set in motion early in life as the brain is developing.

INTRODUCTION Although the percentage of smoking in the general population is declining, the rate of this is slowest among women of childbearing age. The recent National Household Survey on Drug Abuse reported that among women of reproductive age, approximately one-third smoke cigarettes on a regular basis. These figures for the United States are within one or two percentages of those noted in Canada and Sweden. In five surveys throughout the U.S., the extent of cigarette use by women during pregnancy "hyperkinetic disease" as one of the "very rare" psychoses of childhood. In other early textbooks, Kanner (2) gave only five sentences to "the restless, fidgety, hyperkinetic child", "the single most common behavioral disorder seen by child psychiatrists."

34. Attention Deficit Disorder In The Dojang
Paper by Diana Dunlap, PhD on the positive aspects of martial arts training for ADD children.
http://hometown.aol.com/twdiii/webpage/ADDarticle/ADDArticle.htm
Main Other Recreational Sports htmlAdWH('7003382', '234', '60'); (This Article was originally published on the USTU web site.) Attention Deficit Disorder in the Dojang by Diana H. Dunlap, Ph.D. Over the last decade, there has been a tremendous amount of research dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Children diagnosed with ADD tend to have difficulty giving or sustaining attention. They frequently appear unorganized, and may have difficulty following instructions or directions. Often, these children tend to lose items related to task completion and tend to be forgetful. Some children with the disorder may also display hyperactive and/or impulsive behavior. They squirm or become fidgety, interrupt others, talk excessively, engage in a high level of motor activity and have difficulty in turn-taking activities. Many children with ADD experience difficulty building and maintaining positive peer relationships. Increasingly, more and more professionals engaged in the treatment of children diagnosed with ADD or ADHD are recommending that these children become involved in a martial arts program. For many children with Attention Deficit Disorder, the dojang provides ideal place to increase attention span, decrease distraction, develop motor and behavioral control, improve self-esteem, and build positive peer relationships. As a Certified School Psychologist, I have frequently recommended taekwondo instruction for ADD children. As a taekwondo instructor, I have seen ADD children make tremendous strides in their ability to sustain attention and control behavior. Finally, as the mother of an ADD child, I have seen the impact that taekwondo instruction can have on attentional and behavioral concerns on the home front.

Bat's Place
Hello!
Welcome to my WebPage.
This is my personal page.
I initially created this page to help educated people about bats.
I've been an avid photographer for years. I then learned how to use paint Shop Pro. I created all of the graphics on these pages. I found that I enjoy working with graphic files, especially my own photography. I found that I
could display my photos of bats in the San Antonio area. There are lots of them here.
They help us more than most of us know. Bats really are our friends. Without them this
city would be over-run with insects. Most bats are NOT rabid, but if you
see one on the ground, leave it alone! It's best to play it safe. Nature photos have been a favorite of mine since I began using a 35MM camera. Flower photos using a macro lens is one of my favorite subjects. Scenery in Colorado, or taking photos of people in natural settings. I've always wanted to try news photography.

40. The Coach Approach In Israel
Provides coaching for coaching individuals with attention deficit disorder and Learning Disabilities.

Telephone: ++972-97493093 Fax:++972-97496940 E-mail: danlisag@netvision.net.il Cell-phone: 972-52248220 WHAT IS COACHING?
The Personal and Professional Coaches Association defines Personal and Professional Coaching as “...a technique which focuses on the clients’ taking action toward the realization of their vision, goals and desires.” Coaching uses a process of inquiry and personal discovery to build the client’s level of awareness and responsibility, and provides the client with structure, support and feedback. Even though personal coaching is still young as a profession, it has given rise to many “specialty areas” of coaching, including the coaching of individuals with Attention Deficit Disorder and Learning Disabilities. HOW DOES ADD COACHING WORK ?
ADD Coaching is a supportive, practical and concrete process in which the coach and the client work together to identify and clarify the client’s goals and to chart a course towards accomplishing these objectives. Most importantly, the coach helps individuals with ADD sustain the motivation and focus necessary to achieve their goals. The coaching process is highly individualized and takes shape according to the needs of the person being coached. Regular meetings and telephone check-ins with accountability are the guideposts of the coaching process. A partnership with a coach can help refocus the client’s energy, ultimately turning failure and frustration into achievement and increased self-esteem. ADD Coaches work with individuals of all ages to help them acknowledge strengths, accept limitations, develop social skills, and actively create strategies that enable them to be more effective in managing their daily lives.
