Rowing Takes Fourth in Ten Eyck Standings at IRA Championships

CAMDEN, N.J. - The 2004 Cornell rowing season came to an end this afternoon (June 5) with the conclusion of the 102nd Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships here on the Cooper River. The Big Red placed fourth overall in the Ten Eyck Trophy standings with 251.59 points. En route to its fourth-place finish, the Big Red captured a gold medal in the varsity pair race. Cornell also placed sixth overall in the varsity lightweight eight race and 11th (fifth petite finals) in the heavyweight varsity eight competition. FULL STORY

Varsity Eight Wins Petite Final at IRAs

Yale's Varsity Eight won the Petite Final at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta Saturday afternoon with a time of 6:08.70, besting second-place Northeastern (6:12.36). Oregon State (6:12.85), Rutgers (6:13.06), Cornell (6:18.01) and Wisconsin (6:18.38) rounded out the field. Harvard won the Grand Final (5:53.18). Yale also won the Petite Final in the Second Varsity Eight competition with a time of 6:15.67 to Princeton's 6:17.82. Washington won the Grand Final (6:06.94). ( more

Athletics A variety of sports activities are provided to nurture the physical well being of the community and to provide an opportunity for students to compete in sports in an educationally sound environment. While no formal physical education courses are offered, there are numerous opportunities for participation in both competitive and recreational activity. The University of Dallas currently offers 15 intercollegiate sports for men and women on the non-scholarship, Division III level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. As an independent member of the NCAA, the UD competes with institutions from across the southwest and across the country. While the teams' regional schedules include competitions in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, most teams frequently schedule games on a national scale. Previous schedules have included trips as far away as California, Wisconsin, Florida and New York. Baseball: Phillips Earns Austin Regional All-Tournament Team Honors

Youngstown State junior third baseman Jim Phillips was named to the 2004 NCAA Austin Regional All-Tournament team for his efforts against the Texas Longhorns and the TCU Horned Frogs, the University of Texas Media Relations Department announced.
Phillips hit .714 (5-for-7) with two home runs, two RBIs and five runs scored in two games at the regional tournament. The junior went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored against the Longhorns on Friday and added a 3-for-3 performance that included two homers and a double against the Frogs on Saturday. Baseball: TCU Rallies to End YSU's Postseason Run, 12-8
Austin, Texas
Youngstown State proved it could play with the nation's elite in its two games at the Austin Regional this weekend, but the Penguins' season ended Saturday as they fell 12-8 to the TCU Horned Frogs at Disch-Falk Field.

The more than 100 student-athletes (about 15 percent of our total enrollment) at R-MWC who are involved in our varsity program excel academically and assume leadership roles on campus. Women athletes at R-MWC get ALL of funding and spectator support. The R-MWC WildCats compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), a highly competitive and prestigious conference in NCAA Division III. UD Senior Named A-10 Baseball Student Athlete of the Year, First Team Academic All-America
For the third consecutive season, the University of Dayton’s Tom Beechem has been selected the Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in baseball. The Flyers’ fifth-year senior left fielder, who owns a 4.0 grade point average as he pursues a master’s degree in Materials Sciences and Engineering, was also named an Academic All-American for third consecutive season his second time on the First Team.
Senior Khaleelah Sneed and sophomore Kelly Pohlman finished one of the most successful seasons for the University of Dayton outdoor track and field team by competing in the 2004 NCAA Mideast Regional Championship at Louisiana State University this weekend. Although neither qualified for finals appearances, the pair became the first multiple entry in the NCAA Regional in school history.
