They 'were financially unable to help and pleaded innocence'. 5 June 2004 - GREAT news: Mr. Charles E. Space Station Astrophotography
Astronauts onboard the International Space Station are capturing some amazing photos of the night sky.
Listen to this story via streaming audio , a downloadable file , or get help March 24, 2003: It's a weird place for an astronomer. Meteors fly underfoot. Auroras appear just inches in front of your nose. City lights twinkle, but stars don't. Astronaut Don Pettit loves every minute of it. "There's always something good to see out the window of the space station," says Pettit, who happens to be an amateur astronomer as well as the science officer of the International Space Station (ISS). Right : Astronaut Don Pettit, Expedition Six ISS science officer, takes pictures of Earth through a window in the Destiny laboratory on the International Space Station (ISS). [ more "Lately we've been having some extraordinary auroras," he reports. "They meander like big green amoebas crawling across the sky. Sometimes there is a faint touch of red layered above the green. These lights are constantly changing. They swirl. Bright spots come and go. Green blobs transform into upward-directed rays topped by red feathery structures." Long before he went to live onboard the space station, Pettit was an avid aurora watcher. "I've taken photos of the Northern Lights from Alaska and Canada," he says. Some of those displays were magnificent, but "the view from station is even better."

Accessories for astrophotography including the Universal Camera Mounting Adapter for attaching cameras/telephoto lenses to telescopes, the XY Finder for guide scopes and CCD guide cameras, plus the FlipMirror Focuser for CCD cameras located at the telescope's prime focus.

EMAIL I give the XY Finder a Standing Ovation! Finally, a useful guiding accessory! The XY Finder eliminates the hassle of centering a guide star and does it in a most novel and eloquent way. Bravo Tau Ceti Co! If you guide, the XY Finder is ESSENTIAL equipment. I give it the highest recommendation. The XY Finder can turn any scope into a convenient and easy-to-use guidescope. With it, I have used all my refractors as guidescopes, including my 80mm Megrez, my TV NP 101 and even my AP 155. I am so please with the XY Finder that I will personally speak or correspond with anyone interested in purchasing this great accessory. It takes the hassle out of finding and centering guide stars.
Email me at ken@kenpress.com or call me at (520) 743-3200. If you manually guide, or use the ST-4 as an autoguider, the XY Finder by Tau Ceti is an ABSOLUTE MUST. This finely-crafted device finally puts an end to centering hassles.

San Angelo Amateur Astronomy Association, Inc. Click here for SAAAA's Home Page Some information on our club Our present membership consists of approximately 30 members. Club meetings are held at seven p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month in the Angelo State University Planetarium, located in the Physical Sciences Building. Meetings usually consist of a general review of current astronomical events, a brief reading of past club meeting minutes, and an astronomy program presented by a club member of a video presentation. The club owns three telescopes: a 12 inch Cave reflector, an 8 inch Celestron reflector, and a 6 inch Dynascope reflector. These telescopes were originally owned by Dr. Moon and were eventually donated to the association. A small library containing back issues of different astronomy magazines and a number of hardback books covering a variety of historical and technical subjects are available for checkout by club members. Membership in the club is open to anyone. Light pollution and trees which block the sky within the city have become an ever growing hazard to "backyard" astronomy. For these reasons the club periodically sponsors a "Star Party" which is our opportunity as a group to take our telescopes and meet at a location outside San Angelo where the city lights are not as bright. Distances travelled are not generally more than ten miles or so.

Astrophotography with "prosumer" digicams may be easier than you think!
Imaging Resource article by: Bret McKee
(Original posting date November 20, 1999)
Introduction
The night sky has been a source of wonderment for as long as there have been people to gaze up at it. The ancients believed that there was magic in the celestial bodies and even named them for their deities and heroes. It is not surprising that people love to photograph those objects and that viewers are invariably impressed with almost any decent astrophotograph.
While taking spectacular photos of deep space objects like nebula and galaxies requires special equipment and lots of practice, it is fairly straightforward to take good photographs of the relatively bright objects in our solar system. It is quite easy to take photographs of the moon, and while it is more challenging to take photographs of the planets it might be possible for anyone with access to a telescope.

    A Wide-Field Astrophotography Page
Hi, I'm Brian Rachford and welcome to my wide-field astrophotography page! Notice that I call it "A" wide-field astrophotography page. The information is not intended to be comprehensive by any means. The emphasis here is on astrophotography with SLR film cameras and simple tracking equipment. Other than a recent (Nov 2003) rescan of the photos to much improve their digital appearance, these pages have not been updated for a while. However, there is still a lot of good information here. Also, I'm sort of getting the "Jones" for this sort of thing again, so maybe I'll have some new stuff here by early 2004.
