ITE offers telescopes, CCD imaging systems and the accessories you need to make these products perform to their highest level. We stand behind our products with after-sales service and support , here in the United States, and have been doing so since 1996.
ITE is run by Mike Palermiti, an “authentic astronomer” who brings more than 40 years of experience in astronomy and optical design
Mike chooses products based on measuring their performance both on a test bench and outside under the stars. While we offer many great off-the-shelf products, we also offer custom telescopes for customers who are looking for “something special”.
While we have worked hard to put a lot of information on our web site, it can never take the place of a real conversation. So call us at 800 699-0906 we love to talk astronomy!

Optical Design Software: dbOptic - The Optical Design Database Program
dbOptic: Optical Design for PCs and Compatibles
Powerful, easy to use optical design software from Sky Scientific makes light work of optical design from a single lens or mirror to complex systems of up to 99 surfaces. Engineering professionals, students and educators use this software to perform simple ray tracing or solve tough optical engineering, optical system design and imaging problems. dbOptic includes a fully integrated glass catalog and basic lens design library. An optional library of 2,500 additional lenses and systems from major optical manufacturers and suppliers is available at small additional cost.
You can download a free evaluation version of this optical design software and have it running in a short time! dbOptic: Optical design software for Windows® 95/98/NT/2000/XP. Features dbOptic is easy-to-use, high-performance optical design software with most of the features of applications costing 10 or 20 times as much. While of obvious value to the optics professional, this software was developed in consideration of the needs of technical professionals with training in other disciplines as well as students and educators.

Starclock is a program for DOS that animates the evolution of stars on the HR diagram.

StarClock: Stellar evolution at PC
This is an excellent program for anyone wanting to learn
more about how stars change as they age.
StarClock is now a staple in my astronomy software list. Dave Bruning,
Astronomy This short movie, based on StarClock 2.0 , shows the evolution of a five-solar-mass star.
StarClock 2.0 (precisely the file sclock20.zip, about 120k) is currently available at the following sites:
This WWW page (Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic).
SEDS (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, Arizona, USA)
SimTel , the Coast to Coast Software Repository (tm) and its numerous mirror sites
Short reviews of StarClock appeared in Telescope (Ver. 1.0, April 1996, p. 55) and Astronomy (Ver. 2.0, June 1996, p. 94). StarClock could have never been created if it were not for the grid of stellar models computed by G. Schaller, D. Schaerer, G. Meynet and A. Maeder Geneva Observatory ) and published in a form which called for writting the program. I am grateful to Nancy R. Evans

Satellite Prediction Software
If you want to set about generating your own predictions for observing then naturally you'll need some software. What follows is a selection of software for various platforms with a short description and a pointer to the package itself. There are also many utilities for non-prediction purposes, such as managing files of elements, converting between different types of elements, and extracting various information from elements.
IBM PC
  • Quicksat
Mike McCants' program uses two-line elements to generate predictions which include an estimate of magnitude. It is text based, reading the input parameters from a formatted file. The comprehensive magnitudes file is packaged with it. See the UNIX section below for other versions of Quicksat. SkyMap 6.6
Rob Matson's program uses SGP, SGP4, SDP4 and HANDE models for prediction. It plots star maps with and without satellite tracks. Skymap can find Iridium flares . It is able to search collections of elements with specified conditions. Useful for identifying satellites. It produces output for HP printers and is able to plot rocket trajectories. Shareware. $25 suggested. The package is available in several parts. Rob's description of this latest version and resources for download are found in the SeeSat-L archives: Version 6.5

http://www.astro.cz/darksky/
Night Environment Pollution and the Remedies through Legislation and Technology, in Czechia and in general
The main principle is simple,
  • don't use artificial lighting outdoors when and where it's not necessary
  • let the light go just the right direction: down (and steep enough). Lighting fixtures with no curved belly (a flat glass instead) do the job, (if lighting is really needed) like these in central Europe:
eco-settlement in Kassel Strasse der Solarenergie in Gleisdorf in front of Brno railway station parking lot in front of the museum in Gleisdorf Most information is in Czech only (see http://svetlo.astro.cz , or, as a novelty, a huge research report within http://amper.ped.muni.cz/noc ), just a couple of things is in English as well (a non-local one is on lighting and crime Czech Republic included light pollution in its newly coined Clean Air Act in 2002, a step much appreciated throughout the world. However, the Act contained a declaration only, the government had to issue the very rules. It had never happened, due to efforts of ... and unconcern of ... (you can guess, I have to be diplomatic). However, our effort to formulate simple and still effective set of such rules led to a draft submitted to the House of Representatives (it has not been accepted, as e.g. there was no support from the Ministry of Environment, unlike in 2001), which may be of interest to everybody. I'd appreciate any advice what should be changed in this set to fit legislation of most countries. I have to stress that the

    • Fitsblink - a program for FITS image display, blinking, extraction of star lists and astrometry. It runs on Linux and OS/2 operating systems and should be easy to compile on other UNIX-like systems. It runs both in graphical interactive mode and as a command line program suitable for batch programming. From version 3.0 on it connects to to show asteroid positions and identifies asteroids which are already in the database. is an Internet service which provides information about asteroids. It uses the Lowell asteroid database with almost 50000 asteroids. For connection to the database a number of clients are provided together with source code in different computer languages. Fitsjd is a small utility program which calculates the Julian Day of midexposure time and writes it, together with WCS coordinates and image dimensions, to the standard output. Useful for batch programming. and fitsfrompg are programs which transfer information from FITS header to a Postgres database and retrieve the information from it. Although very simple, these programs can be of great help when searching for old images. Calculation and statistical evaluation of residuals , a WWW service for asteroid astrometrists.

    100. Lucis Image Processing Software
Provider of digital image processing software for Medical Imaging, Forensics, and astronomy. Product specifications, white papers, tutorials, pricing, and downloads.
    http://www.imagecontent.com/
Lucis Image Processing Software, an easy, fundamentally new way to view image content Images often contain hundreds to tens of thousands of contrast levels. Our eyes can only differentiate 32 levels of contrast. Therefore fine contrast variations are only partially recognized as textures our eyes can't resolve. Lucis makes visible the fine contrast variations (details) you would like to see. Using two cursors (sliders) in Preview Mode, select the range of contrast variances to view. Lucis compares each pixel to every other pixel along hundreds of radial lines in two directions to map out contrast variances. Contrast variances within the selected range are enhanced and contrast variances outside the range are diminished. The relative emphasis of contrast information is shifted, but information is not thrown away. Lucis reveals detail that other image-processing methods can’t. Lucis reveals detail throughout the image, in both the bright and dark areas. Dinoflagellate images courtesy of Prof. Brian Matsumoto, U.
