122. ASU Physics & Astronomy | Research - Electron Diffraction And Imaging
Electron diffraction and imaging research at the Physics and astronomy department at Arizona State University.
http://phyastweb.la.asu.edu/research/eld/
Electron Diffraction and Imaging E. Bauer, J.M. Cowley (Emeritus), J. Drucker, G.G. Hembree (Academic Professional), Nan Jiang (Academic Professional), F.A. Ponce, P. Rez, D.J. Smith, J.C.H. Spence, J.A. Venables, U.J. Weierstall (Academic Professional), J.C. Wheatley (Academic Professional). It has become routine to achieve atomic resolution with an electron microscope. The electron diffraction and imaging group at ASU is at the forefront, having been largely responsible for developing the theory necessary for the interpretation of atomic-resolution electron micrographs of crystals, and pursuing novel applications. Research efforts have been oriented towards the development of higher resolution instruments and the application of electron diffraction and imaging methods to a wide range of problems in materials science, solid state chemistry, surface science, geology, magnetism and semiconductor physics. The group has a strong interest in the development of new instruments and new operating modes for existing instruments. We have developed and use several types of ultrahigh vacuum microscopes, including the Low Energy Electron Microscope (LEEM), and high resolution Field Emission Scanning (Transmission) Electron Microscopes (FE-SEM and FE-STEM). We are also at the forefront of developing new imaging modes, such as electron holography, energy filtered imaging, Auger electron imaging, etc. We form the core development team of the Center for High Resolution Electron Microscopy

Located in the middle of Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge, Georgia (~50 miles east of downtown Atlanta), the observatory is a resource for professional and amateur astronomers. However, an additional service of HLCO has been to the public - bringing the wonders of the Universe to Georgia residents.
Professional astronomers from Georgia State University take advantage of the dark skies, away from the light pollution of Atlanta, Conyers, and Convington, to observe objects as near as the Moon and as far away as the edge of our visible Universe.
