         Astronomy Lesson Plans:     more detail
  1. Popular lessons in astronomy on a new plan: In which some of the leading principles of the science are illustrated by actual comparisons, independent of the use of numbers by Francis J Grund, 1833

41. Lesson Plans
astronomy, electrostatics, lasers, radioactivity
http://www.unt.edu/scope/Lesson Plans/activities.htm
Resource Activities Astronomy Sunspots Spotted I n this activity students will study sunspots and their motion. From data gathered, they will determine the significance of the sunspot data. The data will be used to calculate the rotational period of the sun. The students will then draw conclusions as to the sunspot's impact on the world. This activity will also include a historical study of astronomy. Electrostatics A Hair Raising Experience This activity is designed to help students understand the concept of charged particles and neutral materials. Students will work with conductors and insulators to produce, detect, and transfer charges. Electrostatics 2 A Positively NEGATIVE Experience Students will work in cooperative learning groups to discover how Gauss's Law applies to conductors and dielectric materials. Geology Geology 1 Topsy-turvy Maps Students will use the data analyzer and motion detector to collect data and measure distances. The graphing calculator will be used to show the profile of the simulated land features. They will create topographic maps drawn to scale of a given setup and relate the concepts to the creation of historical ocean maps. Geology 2 Dirty Investigation Given a set of minerals found with the skeleton of an ancient traveler, students will identify the minerals, plot their location on a map, and determine the trail the man walked. Finally the students will right a story about the adventures they think the man might have had. Suitable for 4th and 5th grade students.

Developing Software and Web-based Astronomy Lessons for Grades K-12 A Workshop for Teachers.
This project is funded by an IDEAS Grant from the Space Telescope Science Institute through NASA . The grant was used to bring together a group of 5th to 12th grade science teachers to take part in a workshop at St.Cloud State University . This workshop was developed to help teachers incorporate the internet and commercially available astronomy software into their science curricula. Most of the projects are based on Web pages that the participants developed, but a couple are based on adaptation of commercial software packages. This site contains links to curriculum guides to each of the developed lessons, plus links to sites used during the workshop. This site also serves as the home page for the workshop and its particpants and contains links to other web pages used by the participants. Facilitators: Mark A. Nook
