Depending on each individual course pedagogy, performance evaluation can be based on writing an individual paper, preparing a group presentation, creative portfolios, web sites, class participation, attendance, homework problem sets, exams (essay, short answer, multiple choice, true false), and so on.

Following the establishment of the Victorian Institute of Teaching (Institute) in January 2003, the Department's Employment Assessment Centre (EAC) ceased operation. Persons seeking employment as a teacher in any Victorian school are now required to be registered by the Institute. The registration process includes the assessment of qualifications. All enquiries concerning pre-employment qualification requirements should be directed to the Institute.
The EAC also provided advice and assistance to schools concerning the assessment of qualifications and previous teaching experience for the purposes of determining the commencement salary for a teacher, and advice to schools on qualification requirements for the teaching of specific subjects. Could Someone with a Diagnosis of a Severe Mental Illness Work as a Teacher?
The Fitness to Teach Assessment
All successful applicants for teacher training courses must pass a 'fitness to teach assessment' before they can be accepted on to a training course. This is likely to be a barrier for people with severe mental illness because of stigma and lack of awareness by the people doing the assessments. The first stage in the fitness to teach assessment is a written questionnaire that all applicants have to complete. This is sent to the medical officer of the college or university to which you have applied. The medical officer may then ask you to submit further information or to attend a medical examination. If your doctor or psychiatrist is asked for information you may ask to see their report and you may submit your own comments on it. Medical information you or any doctor gives in the assessment is confidential between you, the doctor(s) and the medical officer. Only information about your fitness to teach may be passed to other people. The medical information should not be passed to others unless you agree to it being passed on. The purpose of the 'fitness to teach assessment' is to check that you are fit to teach but also to identify any support needs you may have. Following the assessment you will be assigned to one of three categories:

Critical Issue: Rethinking Assessment and Its Role in Supporting Educational Reform
ISSUE : Assessment of student achievement is changing, largely because today's students face a world that will demand new knowledge and abilities. In the global economy of the 21st century, students will need to understand the basics, but also to think critically , to analyze, and to make inferences. Helping students develop these skills will require changes in assessment at the school and classroom level, as well as new approaches to large-scale, high-stakes assessment.
Linda Bond, director of assessment at NCREL, explains how the new skills needed in the 21st-century global economy have spurred the accountability/assessment movement in education.
Excerpted from NCREL's Policy Talks , audiotape #2, Reaching for New Goals and Standards: The Role of Testing in Educational Reform Policy (NCREL, 1994). [Audio Comment, 204k]. A text version is available.
OVERVIEW
As society shifts from an industrial age, in which a person could get by with basic reading and arithmetic skills, to an information age, which requires the ability to access, interpret, analyze, and use information for making decisions, the skills and competencies needed to succeed in today's workplace are changing as well (Bond, 1992; National Center on Education and the Economy, 1989; and U.S. Department of Labor, 1991). In response to these changes, content standards - the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed for students to achieve at high levels - are being developed at the national and state levels in areas such as mathematics, science, geography, and history. These standards have been synthesized in

Assessment and Homework
All of the Korean students will understand the need for documented assessment of some kind to follow their progress through both the Korean State schools or the private hogwons (teaching academies). Documented assessment is the ongoing system in Korea. External measurement against a 'benchmark exemplar' or against others is what every person expects to face from the time they enter the state education system. Parents are paying large amounts of money to send their children to these hogwons (private teaching academies) and they will be expecting to get results for their expense!
You will be given very clear advice from your school about what is expected in a student report but I can assure you that it won't be any information that shows the student in a negative manner or as non-achiever! Tests will be set for both speaking, listening, and grammar. Often these tests are monitored externally and cost the parent?s money to have their child participate in them. It is quite common practice for teachers to have to prepare the students specifically for these tests, which can involve a few more hours' preparation. The school should be paying overtime if they ask you to grade or write tests for them if they are in addition to your normal class hours. There are also a number of standardized speech competitions that are held for the students to compete in as well.
Most of the tests that are used as ?standardized achievement tools? are from the American education system and may be unfamiliar to some teachers. It is important that you try to keep up to date with the types of tests and competitions that the school operates so that you can prepare in advance.
