Stone Sculptors, Art Work Links
Hi, welcome to my web site. On this site I've made a page per an art piece, some of them
are just pics of the finished pieces, most of them are a collage of pics from the start
of a project to the present state or to the completion of the project. I've also tried to
make the background of each page using the actual stone used for that project, so you'll
get an idea of the color of the stone.
My girlfriend and I started carving in June of 2000. We started by taking a 3 day class
at Ann Weiler's, The Sanctuary , we used mostly hand tools, we were hooked. Then we went to Lenore's place, Stone Sculptors Supply and we took a class with Ante Marinovice, there we learned how to work with pneumatics tools. Then we went on a buying spree and bought all kinds of tools and stone, this can be an expensive hobby. We also attended the Southwest Stone Carving Symposium Newer site in New Mexico. I've relocated further south in Californin so I'm currently going to Lenor's place

Leigh Morgan - 1999 Winner of the Sydney Royal Easter Show Figurative Sculpture Prize.
"Patrons of the Gallery respond instinctively to the elegance of Leigh's beautifully hand polished cedar sculptures, stroking the wood whilst commenting upon the unusual skill he calls on to realise his powerful contemporary works." Michael Berry - Sweetwater Gallery
L eigh uses the buttresses, roots, forked limbs and butts of the now rare Australian Red Cedar and Rosewood trees he has scavenged or bought locally in the Bellinger valley or up on the adjacent Dorrigo Plateau. Leigh loves working with Cedar and that many of his works should evoke the feminine form follows from his empathy with his medium. "Cedar has the best of the attributes I admire in women, It is truly beautiful, full of life and potential, soft and responsive yet strong and enduring". Leigh works 5 to 8 hours every day and produces 4 or 5 major works and 10 to 12 smaller pieces a year.
L eigh Morgan was trained by Melbourne artists Amby Dyson, Vic O'Conner and Noel Counihan - all friends of his late father Frank W Morgan, an established artist and recognised member of the George Bell School. Leigh lives on a beautiful 45 hectacre bush block in Thora near Bellingen on the North Coast of NSW. Leigh, who was previously known for his portraits, abstracts and landscapes, switched to sculpting after a summer school with sculptor Bert Fugleman in 1985.
H is sculptures and paintings are represented in collections in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, England, USA, Russia and Japan. His sculptures are currently on exhibition at the Gannon and the Bischof galleries in Sydney.

  • 176. Award Winning Carvatures Relief Wood Carvings And Wood Crafts Art Gallery.Fifth
Gallery of oak relief carvings and sculptures by D. Bruce Walker.
    http://www.taylormadeproductions.com/bruce.html
Welcome to the world of Carvatures relief wood carvings. What you will find in the wood crafts art gallery is just a small sample of relief wood carvings from award winning wood carver, D. Bruce Walker. What is almost impossible to see from the photos of the carvings is the depth of the cut into the wood. Relief wood carvings have been described by many like a "3D picture" where the image seems to “leap” from the wood. Several carvings in the art gallery photos are “shallow relief”, meaning the cut into the wood is only a quarter inch or so. Others, like the bears, will spring forth from the wall hanging by 4 or 5 inches. Unfortunately, it is impossible to capture the wood crafts detail in a photo. If a part of the relief wood carving seems to be out of focus, this is because that part of the wood carving is several inches deep. Not only does award winning wood carver D. Bruce Walker do relief carvings that hang on the wall like a 3D picture, he also does wood sculptures. These can sit on a desk or table and are carved all the way around.

Welcome to Christina's Carvings He who works with his hands is a laborer,
He who works with his hands and his head is an artisan,
But he who works with his hands, his head, and his heart is an artist. - Author Unknown Wood, in its living, thriving form, is a magnificent example of God's artistry, trees. Once the time has come that the life does not flow through the tree any longer, I choose to preserve the wood and utilize it as an art medium. I hope you enjoy your time browsing my site and feel the "personality" that each piece emulates. Christina's Carvings
