Civic Art in Planning and Economic Development
Communities are beginning to recognize the economic contribution the arts can make in creating vibrant public spaces. The results are improved urban quality of life, an expanded business and tax revenue base, a positive community image, a cultural and tourist draw, and a dynamic community “innovation habitat.” All these help define a community as separate and distinctive from other cities in the competitive global marketplace. Many of the programs identified in Holistic Programs/ Placemaking and Exemplary Public Art Programs could also be listed here as they each are characterized by the understanding that public art does not have to be about just placing objects in a building or an environment. It must be understood in the larger context of how arts can contribute to a livable community. General Defining the Form of the City Parks

The Role of Arts in Economic Development
The National Governors Association (NGA) is the collective voice of the nation’s governors. It is one of Washington, D.C.’s most respected public policy organizations. The NGA Center for Best Practices helps governors and their key policy staff learn about emerging issues, and develop and implement innovative solutions to governance and policy challenges in their states. The arts are emerging as a potent force in economic life of cities and rural areas nationwide and indirect contributor to state economies.

When your game pushes the envelope with large numbers of character assets, 3d.sk can be a big help. We needed a lot of reference material in a short period of time, and Peter came through with high quality photographs. Great work!
Ben Throop
l ead chara cter artist (Sony America) I always said, use references - the importance of reference can not be stressed enough. And the best reference for modeling, texture painting, shading and lighting is almost always a clear hi-res photograph. This is exactly what's provided on this site. The focus is obviously on quality, not quantity. For years Peter has demonstrated his skill in picking good reference images, and his dedication in bringing them to the world. Now he goes one step further, and raises the bar again.
Steven Stahlberg
High quality reference photos are fundamental to an efficient modeling and texturing pipeline. This site has material that is tailor made for the 3D community and goes beyond what many of us can expect to capture with our own cameras. I hope this site becomes well supported as it has the makings of an essential resource. The concept is such a good idea that 3D.sk is bound to succeed.

There is no one single way of writing references. Often you will need to follow the guidelines stipulated by the body or journal that you are submitting your work to - Instructions for authors are often available in the journals in question or from the publishers (their Web sites may give this information). If there are no guidelines for the work you are preparing, you should make sure that you write your references in a consistent and understandable way - examples of how to quote references for various types of material (books, articles in journals, reports, patents, theses, chapter in books, Internet/WWW address, etc) are available. Guides to writing for history of art, and managing research projects, are available. Most notably these include:

This year's version uses a different interface than last year's and installing it on your computer can be a bit tricky, but once it's up and running, it's great. Just make sure you follow all instructions for installation and usage exactly as they are written. One problem with last year's CD-ROM was speed. Bringing up price results of more popular artists with hundreds of auction records took quite a while. This year's CD-ROM has solved that problem and greatly reduced the wait hundreds of records come up in a matter of seconds. Another nice addition is a button-click function which rapidly arranges price results in either ascending or descending order by dollar amounts. The button-click function that arranges works of art from either latest-to-earliest or earliest-to-latest examples by date the artist produced them is nice to have, but only comes in handy on occasion.
