Watercolors
Acrylics Airbrush Digital Art Ah! Oil paints! The rich creamy texture! The luminous color! I love all art mediums, but there's something so luscious about oil paints. I have a real soft spot in my heart for them. And then there's alkyds. As far as I know, only Windsor-Netwon makes them, but they are fabulous. I like to think of them as a cross between oils and acrylics. Grumbacher Pre-Tested Oils - Good brand of oil paints, in all the colors. There are differences between Flake and Titanium White. I used to think that white was white, but when you are talking about oil paints, it ain't so simple! (I usually use Titanium White.) Dick Blick's site explains the differences between whites on their Grumbacher oil paints page. Windsor-Newton Oils - Very nice. Rich and creamy. Windsor-Newton oils are fabulous. The cream of the crop. I usually get at least a few tubes. Gamblin Oils - Rich, nice quality oils. I like to use these too.

Watercolors
Airbrush Digital Art Acrylic paints can be really fantastic - they dry quickly, mix with water, and are very durable. However, some people find they have trouble blending them. But - once you get the knack, they are a wonderful, easy and convenient painting medium. Liquitex acrylic sets - Liquitex is usually considered "the standard". Of course there are other good brands, but I usually stick with Liquitex. Dick Blick acrylic paint - Less expensive - I see no reason why these wouldn't be a good brand as well. Check 'em out! Dick Blick acrylic mediums - There are all sorts of products that can be mixed with acrylic paint, to get different effects! I sometimes use a drying retardant. There are also products that add more "body" to acrylics, and so on. Check the Dick Blick site for a whole listing of acrylic mediums. All these products are available at Dick Blick Art Materials They have a vast inventory of art supplies, including many brands that are hard to find locally. I drool every time I visit their site.

"Behind a painting is my life, my travels through Asia, the Pacific and Latin America all those colors, all those impressions, not just beautiful things, I have also seen deeply miserable things and helped to improve them.'"

Profile and Credentials All shows will be reviewed through feature articles, editorials and press releases by the New York Art Magazine. Philosophy and Comments Theme: "Investigation into one single area". In my latest paintings the representational space consists of a new single area, framed by 3 vertical and horizontal straight lines, a sort of pictorial arena in which I can investigate. To investigate appeals to me, to discover whether my own painterly language can express itself adequately within that framed space.

I quickly learned to use the filters etc. and within a few days, had the program down to a science. Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, I got a dirty paint brush~!!!! Comment: Walk through any museum and whaddya see? Oil on canvas, oil on canvas, oil on canvas, oil on canvas. Is this just because of tradition or is oil paint simply the supreme artist paint? I know acrylics are still relatively new when compared to oils, but when you consider the number of interesting mediums that are available for acrylics (one medium made by Golden actually makes your paintings glow in the DARK.), it would seem that acrylics lend to looser, more experimental painting.
But the true itch I have in deciding which type of paint to use is color intensity. I am an absolute color addict, and the more pigment, the better. So which tends to have the most vibrant, intense colors: oils or acrylics? ANY info on this debate would be GREATLY, greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Reply: Dear Otis,
I too am a color freak and I too have posed the question, which is more vibrant oils or acrylics? The answer is...both. The acrylic makers know that there is a great deal a skepticism about their product and there are some makers that do not put much pigment (or the better kind of pigment) in their product (because they are selling for the "economy" crowd) but there is a world of difference between Golden and Basic acrylics, huge. Just like there is a big difference in oil colors.

To keep that story short, after that trip I bougth my first scetchbook and after additional schetchbook or two I started to draw on larger sheets of paper. Some of the earlier works got a bit of recognition on local exhibitions in upper Dalecarlia. Stephen Anderson Stephen Anderson was born in 1967 in San Pedro, California. He received a Bachelors of Fine Art degree from California State University Long Beach (CSULB). Following graduation, Stephen pursued a career in art, he joined art organizations and began to exhibit extensively, across the United States and in Paris, France. He has received awards and recognition for his art. His current series: Burned Fingers series of 1,000 examines the gestures and positions of hands and the varied meanings that occur; from love to anger to alienation to enlightenment. The series begun in August 1997 and has a predicted finish date of late 2000, done with a blowtorch and oil paint and mixed media on wood. David Romero Barranco Born in Reus, Spain, in 1974. Arguments for and against using acrylics or oil paints
I have been painting part-time for about three years now, and have tried both oils and acrylics. I think they both have their pluses and minuses, and I have yet to make up my mind (keep going back and forth). I tend to paint more in acrylics because I have a good stay-wet palette and my paints keep in there for days without drying. It seems if I can't paint for a day or two, my oils are dying up on my palette. I also like the clean-up with acrylics, but like other, prefer the 'smell' of oils. Who knows, I may never make up my mind and keep painting in both. Leo
