In some ways, our lives today are similar to the lives people lived thousands of years ago, but in most ways, our lives are very different. For this lesson, you will need: Access to the Internet Paints and brushes, crayons, or markers in various colors Long roll of brown paper or newsprint Tape or other means of attaching paper to wall Ask students to tell you what these illustrations can tell us about life in ancient times. Guide them to notice that the wall paintings tell us at least the following:
    • Which animals lived at that time Which animals the people hunted What games the people played
    Explain to students that they now will have the opportunity to create a wall mural that illustrates a day in their lives, but in this case the mural will be only temporary; the students will paint and draw on paper taped to a wall. Still, the students might like to pretend that future archaeologists will uncover their creation. Ask students to brainstorm about how they will illustrate their days. If they seem stuck, suggest that they might want to show the following common, daily events:

    Texas Art Teaches Texas History Learning Activities and Resources Introductory Activity: Program Goal: Interpret works of art created by Texas artists as historical documents. Program Objectives: -Identify the multicultural heritage of Texas using inferential learning skills.
    -Identify cultural heroes, historic sites and events of Texas.
    -Identify Texas artists and artwork. Program Description: By studying photographic copies of artwork provided in the outreach kit, students working in cooperative groups will learn to identify Texas cultures, sites, events, heroes, industries and geographic regions. Methodology: Divide students into cooperative groups of four to six members. Distribute three photographs to each group (Appendix A). Instruct the students to study and describe each photograph based only on what they see. Instruct students to record their answers. (It is important that students receive no information about the photographs.) Ask students to consider the following questions: 1. What is happening in each photograph?
