Welcome!
The following activities are designed to be taught independently as well as together for a more comprehensive understanding of Optical Illusions. I hope they meet with the needs of any teacher who is interested finding new ways to integrate disciplines within curriculum lesson plans. All of these activities are taught by Visual Arts teachers Judith Keenan and Susan Petrarca to the general population of students at West Warwick High School. We see these students as the future generation of art appreciators.
The "student outcomes" of this lesson are as follows:
-Students will become familiar with the history of Illusion in the arts and how it has influenced the way artist create images today.
- Students will realize how math and art are integrated when creating visual images.
-Students will acquire an appreciation for how 2D patterns and color association affect their visual perception
-Students will acquire tech skills on the computer that will enable them to create basic designs in a draw program.

Lesson Plans: Strong, concise statements of objectives are always an essential component of any lesson plan. Once the objectives have been determined, the lesson and unit plan design follows. New teachers should develop thorough lesson plans, in part to ensure that important details and concerns have not been over looked, but also because it provides a disciplined and structured way to think about the art of teaching.
...In general, a good lesson plan will contain variations of the following items: *Title and brief introduction of the concepts to be addressed. *Goal(s) or the relationship of the lesson to the purposes of the curricular goals. *Rationale… why are the students learning this. *Instructional Objectives, and *Resources… all relevant vocabulary and definitions, books, audio visual aids, articles.

Wizard of Oz Lesson Plan Suggestions
These lesson plans are not intended to be complete, but merely to suggest directions a Wizard of Oz -themed lesson can go. For this reason, I have decided not to give any sort of grade range. It is up to the teachers, who know their students and their abilities, to adapt these ideas for their classes. (It should be noted that many of these plans are based on the original novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz , which the famous movie is based on, but there are some differences.) These ideas were given to me by Jane Albright of the International Wizard of Oz Club; Susan Bradshaw, a kindergarten teacher in St. Louis, Missouri; Deb Polun, a graduate student at the University of Connecticut; Merewyn DiLiberto; and the L. Frank Baum Oz Festival's Education Task Force in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I've also added a few ideas of my own, and the contributors of other individual ideas are also acknowledged. Don't let the somewhat arbitrary labels throw you, there is a lot of interdisciplinary learning here, and I give some suggestions of what other areas similar lessons can be applied.

    http://www.igs.net/~cmorris/mi_lesson_plans.html
Multiple Intelligences Lesson Plans by Clifford Morris and Branton Shearer Home Overview Many of the following lesson strategies were created by practicing teachers. Their main objective was to extend the range of student intelligences engaged in the wider learning process. Teachers r ewrote existing lesson / unit plans, adding and altered classroom activities so that their student's learning process might be enhanced and true understanding of the topic enriched. At the end of some of the lesson plans, teachers included their reflections so that the reader may hear their reasoning on the benefit of this type of (MI) instruction. Most experienced teachers find that MI lesson planning was quite familiar and affirming because they often already thought this way naturally. The structure of the MI approach was beneficial for even the most experienced teacher because it added dimensions that were easily neglected. This was especially true for teachers of kindergarten and elementary school children who had to think across numerous disciplines. High school teachers, on the other hand, who were more discipline focused often found thinking in cross discipline terms to be more of a challenge. A fundamental guideline to MI lesson planning is to ask yourself the question: " How might I translate this information/topic/concept/skill into variety of different yet appropriate intelligences?
