The political life of the country changed on July 5, 1995, when the citizens voted to adopt the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia . This provided legal guarantees of civil rights, the development of democratic institutions, and the creation of a market economy to secure the future stability of the Armenian state. President Armenia is a republic with a presidential governing system.
