ARMENIAN REGIONAL TELEVISION (short overview) Geography Naturally, the need for an alternative sources of information is particularly important for residents of small towns and in the areas outside of Yerevan. Regional broadcasters are often the only media that inform residents about local events.
Regional studios are situated not only in regional centers and larger towns of Armenia, but also in certain villages (Nor-Hajin, Tashir, etc.). In addition, the closer one is to the capital city, the greater the concentration of broadcasters. A high number of broadcasting stations are situated within a 50 km radius of Yerevan (Echmiadzin, Armavir, Ashtarak, Nor-Hajin, Hrazdan, Abovian, etc.). In addition, there is also a concentration of broadcasters in northern Armenia. In southern Armenia, the situation is quite different, with only a few stations located on a rather large territory, and an even fewer number of stations regularly scheduled broadcasts. Often, stations in the south are on the air from one hour a day to one hour a week (Yeghegnadzor, Kapan).
A boom in the sector was reported in Yerevan during the past year as the number of TV stations increased from one to six (A1+, Lotos, MTB-44, Mayr-Hayrenik, Business-TV, AR). Except for AR and Business-TV, these studios are broadcasting in the UHF range. The presence of so many broadcasters is already creating competition. However, in such a tight and undeveloped market there may be potential problems. Stations broadcasting on conventional frequencies will enjoy certain advantages as they are able to cover a larger audience. Stations in the UHF range will have to think about expanding their audiences, either by improving their technical capabilities, studying the capacity of television sets to receive their signals, or by improved marketing.

http://www.salamiran.org/IranInfo/General/Geography/
Location
Iran is situated in south-western Asia and borders the three CIS states, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Turkmenistan, as well as the Caspian Seas to the north, Turkey and Iraq to the west, the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to the south and Pakistan and Afghanistan to the east.
LANDSCAPE
A series of massive, heavily eroded mountain ranges surround Iran's high interior basin. Most of the country is above 1,500 feet, one-sixth of it over 6,500 high. In sharp contrast are the coastal regions outside the mountain ring. In the north, the 400-mile strip along the Caspian Sea, never more than 70 miles wide and frequently narrowing to 10, falls sharply from the 10,000-foot summit to 90 feet below sea level. In the south, the land drops away from a 2,000 foot plateau, backed by a rugged escarpment three times as high, to meet the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
Mountains The Zagros range stretches from the border with the Republic of Armenia in the north-west to the Persian Gulf, and then eastward into Baluchistan. As it moves southward, it broadens into a 125-mile-wide band of parallel, alternating mountains lying between the plains of Mesopotamia and the great central plateau of Iran. It is drained on the west by streams that cut deep, narrow gorges and water fertile valleys. The land is extremely hard, difficult to access, and populated largely by pastoral nomads.

Armenia: A Historical Atlas
by Robert H. Hewsen
About the book: In this atlas, Robert H. Hewsen traces Armenia's turbulent history, from ancient times to the present day through more than two hundred and thirty full-color maps packed with information about physical geography, demography, and sociopolitical, religious, cultural, and linguistic history. Robert Hewsen's work is the first definitive historical atlas of Armenia and the first such atlas to be published for any of the former Soviet republics. The book is divided into five sections, each of which begins with a chronology of important dates and a historical introduction to the period. Specialized maps include Ptolemy's second-century map of Armenia, as well as maps of Roman, Cilician, Ottoman, tsarist, and Soviet Armenia. Other maps show the Persian khanate of Erevan, the Caucasian campaigns of World War I, the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian monuments in Turkey and Transcaucasia, the worldwide diaspora, ground plans of selected cities, and plans of the great monastery of Echmiadzin in 1660, 1890, and 1990. The atlas concludes with maps portraying the Karabagh war and the new Armenian Republic. Looking Toward Ararat: Armenia in Modern History Images of sample maps: Mt. Ararat

Spain occupies most of the Iberian Peninsula, the nearest European landmass to Africa: it is separated from Morocco by the Straits of Gibraltar and has both an Atlantic and a Mediterranean coastline. Portugal is on Spain's western side and is divided from France by the Pyrenees mountains. The Canary Islands in the Atlantic and the Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean, are Spanish. Spain is mountainous; some of the land is semi-desert and the country has a long coastline which borders the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Its largest rivers are the Ebro, Duero, Guadalquivir, Guadiana and Tagus. The climate is varied, with snow in the mountains and extremes of heat and cold in the central region. Drought is a particular problem in many areas. Madrid is the capital city. Other important cities are Barcelona, Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada and Valencia. Environment
The variety of the landscape is reflected in its flora: trees include pines, cork-oak trees and beech trees; flowering plants include orchids, gentians, lavender and rosemary.

France Information Geography
The French Republic has land borders with Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco and Spain. Its coastal borders are with the Meditteranean Sea, the Atlantic and the English Channel. Corsica is a French island in the Mediterranean. Paris is the capital city. Much of France's terrain is flat; there are some gently rolling hills and mountainous regions include the Pyrenees in the south and the Alps in the east. The Loire is France's longest river. Other major rivers are the Dordogne, the Garonne, the Rhine, the Rhone, and the Seine. France's climate is varied. Its winters are quite cool with mild summers. Winter and summer are much warmer along the Mediterranean. Environment
France has a varied landscape with forests and woodland areas covering twenty-seven per cent of the country. A Federation of Parks oversee France's nature reserves which are home to many endangered plants and birds. Animals include small creatures such as foxes and deer; the chamois lives in alpine areas and some wild boar can still be found in the more remote forested areas. Like all developed countries the French environment suffers from air and water pollution.

The Most Popular City of Armenia, his Capital Yerevan
The capital of Armenia, Yerevan, is one of the world's oldest cities. It was founded in 783 BC, several years before the founding of ancient Rome, by king Argishti the First as Erebuni, the military and administrative center of the state of Urartu. The ruins of the fortress Erebuni are in the southeastern part of the present day Yerevan. The cuneiform inscription found at the site of Arin-Berd reads: "With the power of (God) Khaldi, I, Argishti, Son of Menua, erected this stronghold, and named it Erebuni to the glory of the country of Biaina and to the fear of its enemies.... "
Matenadaran, the National Depository of Ancient manuscripts
It became part of an Armenian kingdom by the 6th century BC. The city is located on the Razdan River only 14 miles (23 kilometers) from the Turkish border. Erebuni-Yerevan has always played a significant role in the economic, political and social life of Armenia. It was one of the prominent commercial centers and was located across many ancient trade routes. The invasions of Arabs and Seljuk Turks in the VII-XI cc. seriously damaged the city and hindered its further development.
Yerevan Opera House
In XV-XIII centuries Yerevan greatly suffered from Ottoman and Persian invasions. After Eastern Armenia became part of Russia in 1828, Yerevan developed into the center of the Yerevan province. The city kept on growing and on the turn of the century it occupied a territory of some 102 sq. km with a population of 30.000 people. Under Soviet regime Yerevan became a thriving industrial city noted especially for its petrochemical industry. The city also produces aluminum, automobiles, turbines, compressors, electrical machinery, and machine tools. Yerevan is a repository of ancient Armenian culture. The Matenadaran Archives contain thousands of priceless ancient manuscripts. The city has an academy of sciences, several research institutions, and a university.
