Latitude: 33° N to 36° 30' N Length x Width Arkansas is 260 miles long and 240 miles wide. Geographic Center The geographic center of Arkansas is located in Pulaski County, 12 miles NW of Little Rock
Borders Arkansas is bordered by Missouri on the north and Louisiana on the south. Missouri Tennessee , and Mississippi border Arkansas on the east. The Mississippi River marks Arkansas' eastern border with these three states. On the west, Arkansas is bordered by Texas and Oklahoma Total Area Arkansas covers 53,182 square miles, making it the 29th largest of the 50 states Land Area 52,075 square miles of Arkansas are land areas. Water Area 1,107 square miles of Arkansas are covered by water. Highest Point The highest point in Arkansas is Magazine Mountain at 2,753 feet above sea level. Visit Mt. Magazine State Park Lowest Point The lowest point in Arkansas is the Ouachita River at 55 feet above sea level.

    Southern and Arkansas Studies
    Purpose: The minor in Southern and Arkansas Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the heritage, life and culture of this unique region of the United States. In addition to providing a general humanities education, the program will offer students training and opportunities for individualized learning experiences through research, internships, and field work. Combining course work from English, Geography, History, and Political Science, the program will also draw upon the rich resources available locally, including the Ozark Folk Center, the Ozark Heritage Institute, and the Old State House Museum. Objectives of the Southern and Arkansas Studies minor are: To provide students with a sound humanities education that will become the basis for good citizenship and success in a variety of professions; To provide students with a broad perspective about the knowledge of Southern and Arkansas geography, history, literature, politics, and culture, and in particular, help students explore key issues that shaped Southern society such as race, underdevelopment, religion, and distinctive cultural developments; To provide students with necessary experiences and opportunities to pursue independent study, field work, or an internship.

    Sydney Rasch won the Arkansas geography bee on Friday, April 2, becoming the first student from Cabot to win the state geography bee, said Jim Rasch, Sydney Rasch’s father.
    Sydney Rasch, who is a seventh-grader at Cabot Junior High South, correctly answered the question, “What is another name for the Sea of Cortez and the Gulf of Vermillion?” The answer is the Gulf of California.
    “I couldn’t believe it,” Jim Rasch said. “It was very exciting when she won. You just don’t expect your child to be the last one standing, and she was.”
