By Date OCTOBER, 1996 S I T E R E V I E W OCTOBER, 1996 Arkansas - Little Rock: College Of Education Online http://www.ualr.edu/~coedept/index.html CONTENT: This site is very rich in external links, a great example of an education directory. A recent upgrade has added a multitude of outside resources for teachers and educators in a variety of subjects. AESTHETICS: Graphically, this is a simple site whose main purpose is to provide links to external sources. The color scheme and text spacing make it easy to read. ORGANIZATION: This site is very well organized as each main category is available in a straight-forward manner from the home page. The addition of frames allows the user to move within the site easily. The information is also divided into sections more readily. REVIEW: For an Education Directory, this is an outstanding site, especially for all those in Arkansas. Links are divided up into such categories as "Graduate Students", "Undergraduate Students", "Teachers", and "Parents". the site also includes educational resources, a library, information about the University and general information on Arkansas. This is a well-organized resource that offers much for the educator.

One Character Education Program That Works!
Many schools, lacking the time and resources required to develop their own character education curricula, are instead turning to established programs that have proven successful in other school districts. Read about one such program -recently adopted by schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania- in which the whole community is involved. Introduction Retirement Migration and Regions of Arkansas Income Level Origin of In-Migrants ... Summary Authors Yoko Sato , Extension Associate - Com. Dev.
Wayne Miller , Director/Retirement Development; Extension Economist - Com. Dev.
Cam Romun d, Associate Director/Retirement Development - Com. Dev. Introduction
Although Arkansas has experienced declines in retiree in-migration since 1980, it still ranks 9th in the U. S. when it comes to the net number of retirees relocating to Arkansas. The state also ranks 9th nationally in the amount of income generated by retirees who have made Arkansas their home.

Arkansas Aged 60+ Retirement Migration and Regions of Arkansas Historically, the regions of Arkansas that are known for mountainous scenery, lakes, rivers, streams, and diverse recreational opportunities have attracted the highest numbers of retirees, whether from within Arkansas or out-of-state.
Between 1985 and 1990, the largest number of elderly in-migrants to Arkansas (14,653) chose to move to the Ozark Highlands. Following the Ozark Highlands was Northwest Arkansas, which received 9,819 elderly from 1985 to 1990. The number of in-migrants to these two regions makes up nearly half of the total elderly in-migrants in Arkansas. The Coastal Plains region received the fewest in-migrants (3,588) of all the regions.

October 25, 2002 'America's 100 Best College Buys' includes Lyon in 2002-03 edition For the seventh year in a row, Lyon College is included among “America’s 100 Best College Buys.” Lyon is one of six Arkansas colleges and universities included in the 2002-2003 edition of the annual report, which lists schools that offer high quality education at an affordable price. “Lyon College is pleased to have again earned this national recognition for quality and value,” Dr. Walter B. Roettger, president of Lyon, said. “It is testimony to the talent and dedication of our faculty and staff, the preparation and motivation of our students, the vision of our trustees and friends, and the support of the community and region.” Also on the list are Harding University, Hendrix College, John Brown University, Ouachita Baptist University and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Last spring, the company conducted its 12th Annual National College Survey. The survey form was submitted to directors of admissions of 1,485 accredited four-year, residential U.S. colleges and universities. Survey results showed the high school grade point average for entering class freshmen in fall 2001 was 3.21 and the average ACT score was 23. The average GPA for Lyon freshmen was 3.56 and average ACT score was 25.
