Veterans Assistance
There are several programs available to veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces to assist with educational expenses. The Montgomery GI Bill is available to those who entered active duty after July 1, 1985. It is a contributory program with matching federal money. Parent Centers train and inform parents and professionals, help families obtain appropriate education and services for their children with disabilities, work to improve educational results for all children, resolve problems between families and schools or other agencies and connect children with disabilities to community resources that address their needs. Parent centers are funded by the U.S. Department of Education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Each state has at least one parent center, and states with large populations may have more. There are approximately 100 parent centers in the U.S. Topical Areas IDEA 97, Rights and Responsibilities, Procedural Safeguards, Early Childhood, Transition (these are just a few of the topics covered by parent centers)
