GENERAL INFORMATION
Fire insurance maps are detailed city plans, usually at scales of 50 or 100 feet to an inch. They show individual building "footprints," complete with construction details such as building material (brick, adobe, frame, etc.), height (of larger buildings), number of stories, location of doors, windows, chimneys and elevators, use of structure (dwelling, hotel, church, etc.), street address, and occasionally the ethnicity of the occupants. Other features shown include lot lines, street widths, water pipes, hydrants and cisterns, and fire-fighting facilities. The maps were originally produced for insurance underwriters who used them to determine risks and establish premiums. Today these maps are used by scholars and researchers in such fields as history, urban geography, architectural history and preservation, ethnic studies, and urban archaeology.

Geography
Home Geography Geography is the science that describes the patterns of natural and manmade features of the Earth's surface, including climate, elevation differences (or topography), plant communities, human populations, and land uses. Most of us think of maps when we think of geography. That's because the field of geography can be very complicated and maps help us understand the arrangement and relationships of many diverse elements. This section presents maps and information about the geography of the San Pedro River Basin. The San Pedro River is located in the southern section of the much larger Colorado River Basin. The map below shows the location of the San Pedro River in northwest Mexico and southeastern Arizona. Note that the start, or headwaters, of the river is located in Sonora, Mexico. From there, the river flows north for about 140 miles through southeastern Arizona, and eventually flowing into the Gila River. The Gila River, in turn, flows into the Colorado River. This section presents various maps and map-based data/information for the San Pedro River. Information contained in this section includes location maps, a topographic map, hydrologic maps and illustrations, and vegetation maps.

I am the "Copper Kid" and welcome to Arizona!! This year I am going to have you learn more about me. I am SO EXCITED to have new friends to share all I know about copper. Anyways, I will ask you a question and those of you who email Mrs. Sepp with the correct answer will get your names on the Winner's List for "Copper Kids". NOTE: You will need to use an Az. road map to answer the first 4 questions. I want to tell you about my mom. She was born in central Arizona near the Prescott National Forest. It was a big mining town that now is a "ghost city." People still live there but not as many as when the mine was there. Why? The price of copper went down and they had to close the mine. People had to leave to find a job somewhere else. Do you know the name of the town where my mom was born This town can be reached by taking I-17 north to Hwy 260, and 260 to Cottonwood. From there, take Hwy 89A into this town.
