"Marching from Lowell, Deportation of I.W.W.'s." From a postcard at UA Special Collections.
The Bisbee Deportation of 1917 was an event specific to Arizona that influenced the labor movement throughout the United States. What started as a labor dispute between copper mining companies and their workers turned into vigilante action against the allegedly nefarious activities of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.). This site is a research-based collection of primary and secondary sources for the study of the deportation of over 1,000 striking miners from Bisbee on 12 July, 1917. Materials include I.W.W. publications, personal recollections, newspaper articles, court records, government reports, correspondence, and journal articles that are part of the collections of three libraries: The University of Arizona Library, the Arizona Historical Society, Tucson, Arizona, and the Sharlot Hall Museum, Prescott, Arizona. FAQ
ASU East Library The ASU East Library is services-oriented rather than collections-oriented. We provide access to the many print resources of the university libraries and to the growing number of subscription databases and journals that are online - hundreds of databases and thousands of journals. We deliver requested material to the user's desktop whenever possible - in most cases within a day or two of the request. Additionally, we offer reference assistance to users both in the library and in remote locations through call center technologies including email, Voice over IP, and chat. Insofar as possible, we make as many of our resources as we can available from anywhere at any time, so the user does not need to visit the library. Announcements:

Information technology and libraries

(ReLIS:jul:tmthpg:y:2000:v:19:i:3:p:144-150) Abstract: While the business world has made great strides in focusing on customer service by studying customers, needs and behaviors, libraries have tended to structure their holdings and services around what they believed was good for their customers. It is the 'librarians know best' syndrome, and it is pervasive throughout our profession. At the University of Arizona Library, we have been trying to change that model. All the staff are actively working to transform our institution to a user-focused library. We are doing this by asking our users what they need and by listening carefully to what they say. We are continuously monitoring what we are doing and asking what we could be doing better. One important change we are making in our behavior is to evaluate our activities through our customers' eyes and ask ourselves what effect our actions will have on customer service and satisfaction.

Regional Library The Southern Arizona Regional Library The Southern Arizona Region will soon be instituting a Regional Virtual Library for use by its members. Until that effort can get underway, the Librarian has made available her lists for browsing. Other members' lists will be made available in QuickBase as the Librarian receives them and as the database is set up. We hope to have this in a preliminary stage by mid-summer, 2004. If you would like to check out one of these items from the Library or if you would like to submit your list for inclusion in the Library, please email the Librarian It is hoped that looking over this preliminary list will give members a sense of what they should include in the lists they submit; the Librarian has many books about architecture in the Georgian period that are not necessarily JA-related but have nevertheless been included here; other members' lists may tend toward the fashions, food, history, or religion of the period.
