Geography of Argentina
Continental Argentina, has an approximate shape of a triangle, elongated from North to South, between 22° and 55° Southern latitude, just from North of the Tropic of Capricorn to near the Wedell Peninsula of Antarctica. Nearly 2,800,000 sq. km, Argentina is the eighth largest country in the world. Argentina's Western border, shared with Chile, runs along the Cordillera de los Andes. Its Northern neighbors are Bolivia and Paraguay, and on the East Brazil and Uruguay and the Atlantic Ocean. Argentina can be divided into three large areas of roughly equal size:
  • The North, a subtropical area, down to 30° Southern latitude, with hot and humid summers and mild winters. Central Argentina, a temperate area, (between 30° and 40° Southern latitude) with warm summers and some frosts in winter. Southern Argentina, also called Patagonia, is steppe area with dry and cool summers and extremely cold winters.

Introduction
... Transnational Issue Introduction Argentina Background: Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation.
