Population growth was rapid through the early part of the 20th century, but it declined thereafter as both the birth rate and immigration began to drop off; the proportion of young people also declined. Argentina's rates of birth and population growth are now among South America's lowest. The nation's population density is also among the continent's lowest, although certain areas are quite heavily populated, including the Humid Pampa, Mesopotamia, and parts of the eastern Northwest. The population is growing faster in urban areas—especially Buenos Aires—than in the rest of the country. Nearly nine-tenths of the people live in urban areas, about a third in greater Buenos Aires alone.

Rating:
An Excellent Travel Guide on Argentina

This 250+ page book had me glued. Generally, I don't read enthusiastically as I get distracted or bored during the process. I finished this in 3 days which for me, is miraculous. Fiona offers practical advice and her style is written in a way that it feels as if she's talking to you about the customs, scenery, people, do's and don't, traditions, history, and idiosyncracies of Argentina. I really appreciated statistics, detailed yet undaunting explanations of aspects of Argentine culture. As I'm heading to Argentina, this book has me so excited about my trip, I find myself restless, hyper, and filled with excitement like a "trasnochador."
Although you may need tour guides for specifics (such as for hotel bookings), this is a great supplemental guide on Buenos Aires and Argentina to give you an overall feel of the climate of this great country.

La Plata - Culture L a plata is the capital city of the Buenos Aires district. La plata has everything. Museums, Galleries, and places to visit as a tourist. Good entertainment and night life all over the area, offers to tourist real action. Dining seriously, and meals can easily last a few hours. Main courses usually consist of an asado, a barbecue of excellent quality beef. Beef is dominant, and it also comes in the forms of bife de chorizo (sirloin steak) or empanadas (meat pies). The local wine is also good, especially the reds. You also might want to try mate, the traditional gaucho drink. The national deserts are dulce de leche, a milk jelly, and alfajores - Argentine sweets made from dulce de leche. The tango originated in society's underbellythe brothels of turn-of-the-century Argentina . As immigrants from Europe, Africa, and ports unknown streamed into the outskirts of Buenos Aires during the 1880's, many gravitated toward the port city's houses of ill repute. In these establishments, the portenos (as they were called) could drown their troubles in a few drinks and find some companionship. They looked desperately for a distraction to ease their sense of rootlessness and disfranchisement as "strangers in a strange land." The first two decades of the new century, the tango took Paris by storm. The blessings of the Parisians, in turn, made it a staple of Argentinean high society.

Bahia Blanca - Culture T he region, with its long estuary advancing among islands till the end of the bay, gives a special stillness to its waters, making it a safe place for vessels calling port. Before the existence of any port facilities, the area was used as a natural anchorage and shelter for sailors. The Bahía Blanca port facility is composed by a number of terminals spreading 25 km. along the coastline on the northern part of the Bahía Blanca estuary. Puerto Rosales and Puerto Belgrano Naval Base , which is the largest in Argentina. The Port Museum was opened in 1987 and is managed by the Municipality of Bahía Blanca . It has been considered as one of the best examples or small historical museums in this country. Its task go beyond its premises, as deals with the natural and cultural inheritance of village of Ingeniero White, and it works also as a community centre. The main concern of the Port Museum is to help visitors to look at history with a sensitive attitude. This is the reason why we suggest an imaginative observation, not bound to the object itself, which we consider a means that helps us to call to mind an experience or a particular stage in life. Devil's land : The history of its foundation begins with the arrival of the english company of the Great Southern Railway and the construction of the first iron wharf in 1885. By this time the great immigration movement had already begun, and Greeks, Italians, Croatians, Spaniards, Englishmen and Creoles were getting mixed in the little new village.

58. The Culture Of Argentina. Tourist And Travel Information
The culture of argentina. Travel to argentina with Top Dest. European influencespermeate argentina s art, architecture, literature and lifestyle.
http://www.destinationplanner.com/south_america/argentina/culture.html
The culture of Argentina Travel to Argentina
with Top Dest European influences permeate Argentina's art, architecture, literature and lifestyle. However, in the field of literature in particular, this has been a cross-cultural transaction, with Argentina producing writers of international stature such as Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortázar, Ernesto Sábasto, Manuel Puig and Osvaldo Soriano. With the education of many Argentines taking place in Europe, Buenos Aires in particular has self-consciously emulated European cultural trends in art, music and architecture. As a result, there are many important art museums and galleries in the city, and it has a vigorous theater community. Argentine cinema has also achieved international stature, and has been used as a vehicle to exorcise the horrors of the Dirty War. Probably the best known manifestation of Argentine popular culture is the tango - a dance and music which has captured the imagination of romantics worldwide. Folk music is also thriving. Sport is extremely important to the Argentines and soccer is more of a national obsession than a game. Argentina won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986, and the exploits of Diego Maradona (the most famous Argentine since Che Guevara), have kept soccer fans, paparazzi and columnists busy for the past 10 years. Argentine Roman Catholicism, the official state religion, is riddled with popular beliefs which diverge from official doctrine. Spiritualism and veneration of the dead are deep-seated, with pilgrimages to the resting places of relations and of the famous dead a common sight. Spanish is the official language, but some immigrant communities retain their language as a badge of identity. Italian is widely understood, reflecting the influence of the country's single largest immigrant group, and BBC English is the preserve of the Anglo community. There are 17 native languages, including Quechua, Mapuche, Guaraní, Tobas and Matacos.
