Admissions Financial Aid You are at: CEACS Civil Engineering Undergraduate Program Undergraduate Program The Department offers specialization in environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering. Environmental Engineering is concerned with the engineering control and protection of the environment. It involves the engineering design and operation of systems for water quality management, water supply, wastewater treatment, and hazardous waste management and treatment. Geotechnical Engineering encompasses the areas of soil mechanics and foundation engineering. It is concerned with the problems involved in the design and construction of structures built on or below ground surface and of soil and rocks or composite material. Geotechnical engineering includes the design of foundations of bridges and buildings, design of tunnels and dams, and the geological factors affecting all structures. Structural Engineering includes the design of all types of structures including buildings, dams, bridges and tunnels and the monitoring of their construction. A primary concern of structural engineers is predicting the loadings that a structure will have to resist during its life and ensuring that it will be both safe and useful.Transportation Engineering deals with the planning, design, construction and operation of highways, railways, air transportation systems, and their terminals. Transportation engineers are involved in the total transportation system, including the administration, management, and performance evaluation. Traffic engineering is a subfield of transportation engineering that involves traffic operations and safety.

"The meaningful Impact of Persian architecture Is versatile. New overwhelming and dignified, magnificent and impressive, charmingly fairy. like.";
Pope Persian architecture can be considered through the age-old history of the land. It goes back to the late 6th and early 5th millennia BC Persian architecture has been a comprehensive embodiment of Iranian psychology and characteristics in different historical periods. In studying Persian architecture four distinct protracted, but continuous periods are distinguished, as follows:
  • Persian prehistoric architecture till the formation of the first national govenmet by the Medes.
  • Persian architecture from the Medes period till the end of Sassanians. C. Islamic period architecture till the end of Safavi period. D. Contemporary and present-day Persian architecture.
    In connection with the present review of Persian architecture, the reader is reminded of a varying range of other arts applied by the inhabitants of Iran to decorate their different constructions. In short, such arts are: stone carving, stucco carving and plaster work, painting, tile work, brick work, mirror glasswork, honey comb work, mosaic work, and several other ornamental arts.
    On the other hand, one has to consider the exceptional multiformity of buildings in terms of design and application. This diversity has arisen as a result of particular requirements and the rich tastes of Iranian artists through different periods of history.

    DAMS AND SAFETY
    The safety of dams is the subject of studies that are very close to the notion of cindynics, both for their construction and their operation. Our very warm thanks to Jacques Lecornu, General Secretary of the International Commission on Large Dams, for giving the readers of the Cindynics Letter an update on this question.
    Dams make a vital contribution to the management of water resources. They make it possible to meet the needs of population, of agriculture and industry, they improve navigation conditions; in certain cases, they provide renewable hydroelectric energy. Dam lakes regulate the natural flow of rivers, either by laminating high-water levels, or by supporting low-water level flows, while at the same time enabling fish-growing activities. The lakes often become home to leisure activities; they are able to create and maintain marshy areas hat are favourable to biodiversity. For all these reasons, dams are a source of riches and, were they to disappear, it is in fact one sixth of humanity that would see its living conditions become unbearable. Nevertheless, on average 1% of dams have suffered an accident over a long period of time. Even though this figure might appear quite low, material losses and the loss of human lives that are the consequences of such accidents are unacceptable.

    This scheme is a proposal for redevelopment of the deteriorating industrial area in Alexandria, Zetland, and Waterloo, currently known as the Green Square which is projected to become a largest redevelopment in Sydney which will trigger development capable of accommodating five-fold increase of the current residential population. This ambitious scheme takes place in the dense currently abandoned industrial area, which lacks either topographical variations or natural / built landmarks, with no sense of identity for which no underlining design principles could be referred to. Based on this condition, it is needed to provide a degree of intervention in the urban fabric to inject new life and activity in this area. Rebirth of Historical Waterways to Recreate the Identity
    Initial research of the history of Alexandria reveals that in 1890, almost half of this barren land called Green Square used to be filled with waterways and dams previously known as the Big and Small Waterloo Dams; a lagoon which in early 1910s were filled up to accommodate the major growth of industrial business in Sydney. In this new proposal of Green Square, a new network of canal system will be re-introduced to the urban fabric to recall the historical Waterloo Dams that once flows within this part of the city. The new canal network will become the main focal points of the area, giving back the sense of identity.

    The Urals towns architecture may seem simple and unpretentious, but this is only a first glance impression. Take a closer look at the surroundings and you will clearly see the beautiful images of old towns and villages.
    Architectural monuments and sites of Perm region bring back the memories of many century history of the Great Perm, Perm Gubernia, Perm Region.
    The oldest buildings date back to the 17th century. These are the stone buildings of Solikamsk- the Troitsky (Trinity) Cathedral, the Preobrazhenskaya (Transfomation) Church, the Bogoyavlenskaya Church, the Voievoda's House, stone churches of the Pyanteg and Verkhny-Chusovskye Gorodki villages. The Bogoroditskaya Church (Our Lady Church) of the Tokhtaryovo village, the Suksun District, is a real masterpiece of wooden architecture and can now be seen in the Open-ari Ethnography Museum of Khokhlovka.
    The 18th century opened up a new page of the Urals history with the beginning of copper and iron works in the area. Some of them (the Suksunsky, Bisersky, Teplogorsky, Lysvensky, Arkhangelo-Pashysky works) have survived as a monument of the industrial architecture of the time. These sites include the dams, office buildings, forgeries, production premises.
    Most notable for their beauty are the architectural sites of Usolye and Ilinskoye which were commissioned by the Ural manufacturers ( e.g. the Stroganovs mansion and Spasso-Preobrazhensky Church in Usolye, etc.). The 18th century architecture features many churches : the superb wooden Preobrazhenskaya (Transformation) Church in the village of Yanidor, Cherdyn district; the Pertopavlovsky (Peter and Paul) Cathedral, the first stone building of Perm City; the Voskresensky (Ascension) Cathedral and the Uspenskaya ( Assumption) Church in Cherdyn; the Uspensky (Assumption) Church in Osa; John the Precursor Church in Solikamsk; the Nikolskaya Church in Nyrob, etc.

    Architecture by Kristin A. Kuckelman Chapter Contents
    The villagers of Castle Rock Pueblo constructed a substantial number of buildings. All structures observed at the site were built of sandstone masonry. Remnants of buildings were found around the base of Castle Rock butte, on top of at least one large boulder, on a ledge midway up the north face of the butte, and on top of the butte. I estimate that at least 16 kivas , 40 rooms, nine possible towers, a D-shaped enclosure, two dams and associated reservoirs, two possible plazas , and numerous enclosing and retaining walls were constructed. Archaeologists study architectural remains in order to learn what types of buildings were constructed, how the different buildings were used, and how many people lived at a site (see " Population Estimates "). In this section, I discuss the types and uses of various buildings observed at Castle Rock, including rooms, kivas, towers, public architecture, and defensive architecture. In " Settlement Organization ", I discuss how the village and the people who lived in it were organized.
    Accurately estimating the number of structures originally present at Castle Rock is a difficult task, especially for the top of the butte and the southern portion of the site. Historic documents (
