Description: Marcus, the teenage narrator of this program, whose Incan ancestors once inhabited the land of Ecuador, takes us on a journey through the country. He introduces us to its people and their varied cultural backgrounds. We see that legacies of the Incan Empire — as well as the Spanish Conquest which followed it — live on in Ecuador’s architecture, clothing styles, and languages. The four geographic regions of Ecuador are shown - the tropical Pacific coastal lowlands, the high central volcanic ranges, the low-lying eastern rainforests, and the Galapagos Islands, which lie 600 miles off the Ecuadorean coast. The agriculture and economy of these regions is also examined. From a native shaman practicing his art to the mating dance of the blue-footed booby, the images that fill this intriguing program bring the people and the land of Ecuador into sharp focus, providing vivid support to World History and Geography units on the regions, cultures, lifestyles, and history of Andean South America. Postmodernism
The term postmodernism (according to the Latin etymology , postmodern literally means "after what is now") refers to a philosophical and cultural movement , the central premise of which is the rejection of all " metanarratives " (ways of thinking that unite knowledge and experience to seek to provide a definitive, universal truth). There is also the term postmodernity conditions , which are distinctly different from the conditions of modernity . The discussion of postmodern ity is the discussion of these conditions. Postmodern ism is the intellectual (cultural, artistic, academic, and philosophical) response to these conditions. And then there is the term postmodern , which is an adjective used to describe a thing that is either a condition of postmodernity or a response to postmodernity. Beyond this relationship, the term is meaningless in itself. But when combined with a condition or response, it is used to refer to a set of ideas which seek to interpret the condition or response. For example, one may refer to postmodern architecture, postmodern literature, postmodern culture, postmodern philosophy Table of contents 1 Brief outline of postmodernism

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage!
The word 'Hispanic' does not define a nationality or a race. It describes a culture. So, who is Hispanic? A formal recognition of Hispanic Heritage was first declared by the U.S. Congress in 1968, to celebrate a combination of several Latin American countries' Independence Day holidays: In 1988, the celebration was extended to a full month. It now includes Columbus Day on October 12th, and Día de la Raza - commemorating the first immigration of Hispanics to the Americas. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th - October 15th.

Home Countries Morocco Photographs e-mail the desk officer
To see our recommendations on books etc for Morocco, click here. Morocco is a country from a storybook. There is the frenzied bustle of the Marrakech souq where storytellers and snake charmers elbow aside merchants and water sellers to fight for your custom, along side mounds of exotic spices and brightly coloured clothes that line the narrow streets of the medina. To contrast with this hustle and bustle of the busy souqs the only movement to be seen on the stark mountains of the High Atlas comes from a farmer slowly ploughing a furrow through a stony patch of ground with two donkeys. In the North West of Africa, Morocco has experienced many different cultures arriving on its shores. From the Berbers to the Arabs to the French, Morocco is a mixture of African, Arab and European culture. Streets have delicate French patisseries next to mosques built into ancient joint houses that run throughout the town. With satellite dishes poking out of the top of isolated sun-dried houses in the middle of the desert to a goat herder pulling out his mobile phone at the top of a mountain, Morocco is full of paradoxes. Although this mixture exists the main religion of Morocco is Islam. Islamic culture is in some ways extremely different from our own and in others incredibly similar, but one that is fascinating to learn about and often misunderstood. Moroccan culture is however, a world away from that which we know in Europe. To be able to live in and understand such a unique country and culture is a privilege that many people will never be able to experience. The diversity and warmth of the people makes it a country that will stay in your heart forever.

  • Culture of Australia The original culture of Australia can only be surmised: cultural patterns among the remote descendants of the first Australians cannot be assumed to be unchanged after 53,000 years of human habitation of the continent. Much more is known about the richly diverse cultures of modern Aboriginal Australians, or at least of those few who survived the impact of European colonisation. (For more on this, see Australian Aborigine and related entries.) Although the effect of the arrival of Europeans on Aboriginal culture was profound and catastrophic, the reverse is not the case: broadly speaking, mainstream Australian culture has been imported from Europe, the United Kingdom in particular, and has developed since that time with very little input from Aboriginal people.

Exploring Ancient History on the Web
Introduction Using the major search engines to search for ancient history Web sites for the classroom may produce overwhelming results. For example, a search on AltaVista for the phrase "ancient history" will result in a lengthy list of over 37,000 Web pages. A better route may be to begin with a database of educational sites such as Awesome Library at http://www.awesomelibrary.org/ . Although the Awesome Library consists of 14,000 sites, each one is carefully reviewed, briefly annotated, organized under classroom subject headings, and searchable by keyword. The Ancient Civilizations section is neatly arranged by culture subtopics, including the Ancient Chinese, Ancient Greeks, and Ancient Mayans. Users can look for the best sites for teachers, kids, teens, parents, librarians, or the community depending on their individual needs. The sites listed below can aid students and teachers in uncovering images, articles, activities, virtual tours, timelines, and downloadable maps to supplement the study of ancient history. Born in Washington, D.C., Paz grew up in Maryland, Honduras, Chile, Dominican Republic and New Orleans. His father, Pablo, who is now a professor of Agriculture at Honduras University, changed jobs frequently while Paz and his three siblings were growing up. Stationed in Newport, R. I.; Norfolk, Va.; and San Diego, Calif.; Paz had served as a surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy for six years after graduating from the United States Naval Academy with a degree in naval architecture.
Having chosen the Naval Academy because of its prestige, Paz was looking for a major during his freshman year and was drawn to naval architecture, which focuses on shipbuilding and design, partly because of the models the students used in class.
