Frank Lloyd Wright: biography
Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the most recognizable architects of all time. This is a look at the life of Frank Lloyd Wright, and how his famous career got started.
You can say Frank Lloyd Wright was destined to be a great architect since the day he was born. His mother, Anna Lloyd-Jones would place pictures of famous buildings in the future architects crib. Born June 8th 1867, in the Southwest Wisconsin town of Richland Center, Wright would become arguably the most recognized architect ever. But architecture was not always in his plans. bodyOffer(22240) He took 3 semesters as a "special student" (because he did not graduate from high school), then left the University of Wisconsin-Madison for Chicago. About a year later, he took a job at an architectural firm which was co-owned by the great architect, Louis Sullivan, who Wright says greatly influenced him. At the time, the firm was working on the famous Auditorium Theater, and Wright soon became the chief draftsman for the project. But while working on the theater, Wright began to develop his own style. And when he started designing and building houses on his own time.a practice Sullivan did not authorize.. he was fired. So in 1893, he started his own firm. He built a studio onto his Oak Park home in 1898. Over the next eight years, he built 49 different structures a period which would end the first period of his career. In 1909, he left his wife and six kids, and moved to Germany. He returned to Oak Park in late 1910 to settle his business and purchased land in April of 1911 in Spring Green, Wisconsin, where he began his home, Taliesin.

was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, on June 8, 1867, son of William Cary Wright , a music teacher and Baptist Minister and Anna Lloyd Jones . Even before he was born, his mother wanted him to be an architect. In 1885, his father definitely left the house. He briefly studied engineering at the University of Wisconsin
In 1887, he moved to Chicago where he worked as a tracer for the architect Joseph Lyman Silsbee . The year after, he worked for the firm of Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan , who at the time were working on the design of the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, still in drafting job.
In 1893, after a dispute, he opened his own Chicago practice in 1893. Wright became the chief practitioner of the Prairie school of architecture , building about 50 Prairie houses from 1900 to 1910.
In 1889, he married

Wright was an enormously important designer and theorist whose views had considerable influence on the Arts and Crafts Movement. He believed architecture to be intimately connected to the land on which it was built, an idea he described as 'Organic Architecture'. This is best illustrated by his masterpiece 'Fallingwater' (1936-1939), a building that was built into a natural rock outcrop above a pristine waterfall giving the impression that it evolved from the cliffs and trees rather than having been constructed by man. The influence of Japanese design is clearly shown here with its lack of rigidity and profound understanding of the internal (culture) and the external (nature). From the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, Wright's designs were monumental. He has become the godfather of modern architecture with a multitude of deeply impressive buildings allover the world.

Frank Lloyd Wright: Architect of the Century Wright's 1910 Wasmuth Portfolio lithographs, the only monograph by America's greatest architect.
Forty years after his death, Frank Lloyd Wright continues to be recognized as the most influential architect of the Twentieth Century. The prolific Wright was an accomplished draftsman at 20 and an established architect by 26. But it was in 1910, at the age of 43, that Wright achieved true international fame with the German publication of his monograph, The Wasmuth Portfolio . The Wasmuth lithographs brought Wright's distinctive Prairie Style to the attention of European modernists Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, then starting their careers. Today the Wasmuth Portfolio remains a cornerstone of American modernism. Beginning Friday, October 1st, ArchiTech presents an exhibition and sale of original drawings and photographs by Frank Lloyd Wright and Wasmuth Portfolio lithographs featuring the Larkin Building, the Avery Coonley House and his gigantic Wolf Lake entertainment pavilion. Included are Wasmuth prints of various buildings for Oak Park, River Forest and the North Shore.

Welcome to a Site dedicated to the preservation of Architecture
Architecture has been my profession, and my avocation for well over fifty years. I want to share with any visitors to my site, my philosophy, and my appreciation of the great world of architecture. My feeling is that good architecture is indeed an art form and can be approached as such. Far too many architectural projects are initiated with only engineering in mind
The final result is a building without soul. In this new Millennium remember, good design is timeless As a veteran of four years in WW2 all anyone can say at this time is............. God Bless America , a land where your Greatest Dreams can come true. Be sure to visit the page "Interests". The graphics on my site will take time to generate but quality does take time.

Frank Lloyd Wright (1876-1959) was one of the best American Architects. Fallingwater is his masterpiece, "the most famous residence ever build" ; tne AIA ( American Institute of arhitects ) refers to Fallingwater as "the best all-time work ofAmerican architecture".
Designed and buil during 1934-1937 in Pnnsylvania, Fallingwater was a vacation house for the Kaufmann family: Edgar, Liliane and son Edgar Jr., owners of a department store in Pittsburgh.
Fallingwater house and contents were entrusted to the Western Pensylvania Conservancy in 1963 and is, today, a house - museum and U.S. monument.
Fallingwater is a synthesis of "organic architecture"; it integrates man with nature, as Wright taught to his students at his Taliesen Studio. Fallingwater was constructed of sandstone quarried on the property and was built by local craftsmen. It follows the concept of integrating environmental factors, function, native materials, construction process and humans (the client).

    Innovative Techniques and Styles
From the beginning Wright practiced radical innovation both as to structure and aesthetics, and many of his methods have since become internationally current. At a time when poured reinforced concrete and steel cantilevers were generally confined to commercial structures, Wright did pioneer work in integrating machine methods and materials into a true architectural expression. He was the first architect in the United States to produce open planning in houses, in a break from the traditional closed volume, and to achieve a fluidity of interior space by his frequent elimination of confining walls between rooms. For the Millard house (1923) at Pasadena, Calif., he worked out a new method, known as textile-block slab construction, consisting of double walls of precast concrete blocks tied together with steel reinforcing rods set into both the vertical and the horizontal joints.
