Archery is Recognized in Minnesota
To say that archery had it's day at the Minnesota State capitol would be a lie. Behind the half hour shooting range presentation before the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCMR), were hundreds of
hours of preparation by folks from both the public and private sectors. That day at the capital was not just one day or even several weeks, but was a decade in the making. The LCMR was created in 1963, to make funding recommendations for special natural resource projects. These projects help maintain and enhance Minnesota's natural resources. Since 1963, LCMR has appropriated over $493 million for approximately 1175 projects. Funds go toward things like fish, wildlife and native plant habitat projects, environmental education, water issues, and recreation and natural systems. The shooting range proposal fell under the area of recreation. With Pittman Robertson (PR) monies largely being allocated to wildlife biology and habitats, the firearms and archery industries have seen a proportionately small return on the investment they pay into the PR

About Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Stanford's JOAD program is a blend between Summer Camp and Private Lessons and is part of a national program designed to encourage children's participation in archery. It offers kids a chance to train for competition and get to know other local archers while improving fundamental skills, learning advanced techniques, and perfecting an individual and consistent shooting style. The program is ongoing and runs throughout the yearnew archers can join at any time.
No experience is necessary for those participating in JOAD and all equipment will be provided by Stanford Archery. The JOAD program accommodates both those interested in competitive archery and those looking for recreational opportunities by providing a serious atmosphere focused on critical skill development, while still maintaining a fun environment. Whether or not an archer wishes to compete, the ultimate goal of their JOAD experience will be the development of lifetime shooting skills and a love of archery.
JOAD classes are coached by members of Stanford's competitive archery team as well as Stanford Head Coach and current U.S. Olympic Team coach Sheri Rhodes.
