"At Home With Hebrew - TheHoly Language" - Multimedia Windows Hebrew Tutorial Software Program teaches beginners to read and pronounce Hebrew language, and to recognize the most common Hebrew words used in Bible and Synagogue. See a Detailed 43-Unit Lesson Plan (please read this page first) "At Home With Hebrew" contains approximately 750 pages or screens . About 650 of
these directly involve teaching a Hebrew language concept (the remaining 100 are
menus, help screens, indexes, etc...). Thus if the student had a photographic
memory and could spend just 3 minutes on each screen, there are at least 25 hours
(3x500=1500 minutes) of teaching materials. While many pages can be covered in
3 minutes, most students will repeat a screen several times, perhaps once or
twice the first time used, then 5 or 6 times in the process of on-going review.
Also, a student can repeat screens using the book-style letters (font) the first
time or two, and then later using the cursive-style-letters. Thus, your "At
Home With Hebrew" can easily result in

"There Is No K In Christmas"
Objective: Children will learn to recognize and spell sets of words in which the letters c h are pronounced like the letter k
Children will become familiar with spelling patterns in which the letters c h are pronounced like the letter k About the Concept: The sound /k/ is usually spelled with the letter c (as in cat k (as in kitten ), or c k (as in duck ). But the sound /k/ can also be spelled with the letters c h . Although children may be familiar with the sound that the letters c h represent in words like chop teacher , and peach , they may not be accustomed to using the letters c-h to represent the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words like Christmas echo , and stomach . The song, There Is No K In Christmas familiarizes children with many words and spelling patterns where the sound of /k/ is represented by the letters c h . Since many words with this spelling pattern are scientific or technical in nature, the song also serves to expand reading and writing vocabulary. When teaching spelling patterns like the variant

Interpreting Rock Art of the Anasazi: Grades K-2 This National Geographic Xpedition lesson plan uses Native American art to acquaint students with the culture of the Anasazi and the lands where they lived. In the Four Corners region of the United States, a large amount of land contains cultural remains of prehistoric Anasazi pueblo farmers. Some remains are in the form of rock art-a general term for the pecking, incising, or painting of designs onto rock surfaces. Students are introduced to the ancient Anasazi people through samples of rock art preserved in the public lands of the Four Corners region. The national parks, which protect this land from vandalism and neglect, serve as a showcase for this Native American rock art. By studying these archaeological remains, students will understand more about the history and culture of these ancient pueblo farmers.

Petroglyphs
Many of the state's rock art sites are located in the prairie environs of southwestern Minnesota. Of these sites, Jeffers Petroglyphs is the most well known and best-described; almost 2,000 petroglyphs at this unique site have been identified. The site's documented glyphs, grouped in 207 panels, extend for over 330 meters along the crest of a rose-colored Sioux quartzite formation known as the Red Rock Ridge; additional glyphs may lie undiscovered beneath the encroaching prairie sod. Location
The site is located in southwestern Minnesota three miles east of T.H. 71 on Cottonwood County Road 10, then one mile south on County Road 2. The Jeffers site is located on a Sioux quarzite outcrop in a virgin prairie setting. Features
The site contains several panels of petroglyphs believed to date from 3000 B.C. to A.D. 1750. A new visitor center presents a multi-media show and exhibits about Native American culture and prairie ecology. Design elements at this National Register site include human, animal and geometric forms, as well as an assortment of glyphs representing tanged projectile points, atlatls, spears and bows and arrows. Admission
Admission is free.

Can You Dig it?
An Archeological Investigation
Background:
What is Archaeology?
Archaeology can be defined as the study of the past. Unlike history, however, archaeology deals more with evidence than record. Archaeologists look for clues to how ancient cultures developed, lived, and died. These ancient civilizations often have no written record, or none has ever been found. The archaeologist must therefore study and reconstruct the past as completely as possible using the given evidence. Artifacts are the heart of archaeology. Artifacts are remnants of the past. These can range from buildings and cities, to clay pots and tools, to mummies and tombs. The archeologist must piece together the clues of the past, using artifacts, documents, and sometimes modern culture and tendencies, to try to form some picture as to what life was like in these ancient cultures.
PURPOSE:
Students will use Science, Math, Language, Social Studies, Writing, and Art skills to complete a Simulated Archeological dig.
