I have recently become interested in the 17th century encounters between the Algonquian peoples who lived in the Northeast and the arriving Europeans and Africans. With this material, I add to the collective memory of that time the major role that Native peoples played in the creation of urban landscapes in New York and other East coast cities. The towering rock formations behind the AVIM are also part of its structural interior with native Joshua timbers supporting its roof. This extraordinary structure is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is located just a mere two to three miles north of the community of Lake Los Angeles. Charged with the responsibility of the priceless exhibits housed in the folk art structure of the AVIM is its curator Edra Moore. Her education, professional qualifications and experience are varied and numerous and meet the requirements for her to shoulder the tremendous responsibility of the AVIM. Edra was born in Colorado and she lived in a tiny farming community, the nearest town being Olathe, Colorado. She doesn’t know if it can be found on a map even to this day.

"This extraordinary gift from Charles Williams is the latest evidence of his unwavering commitment to the University and particularly the Museum during more than 20 years as a volunteer, benefactor and in other leadership capacities," said University of Pennsylvania President Dr. Judith Rodin. "His gift is a further demonstration of his vision and his determination to ensure that the Museum remains among a handful of preeminent archaeological and anthropological museums nationwide, and in fact, throughout the world."
"The University of Pennsylvania Museum, 114 years young, with a mission that remains as vital today as the day it was first envisioned, has great challenges ahead," stated Dr. Jeremy Sabloff. "We have the challenge, and the opportunity, to make our grand but aging Victorian-era building an asset, and not a liability. We also have the challenge to remain active and flexible as we engage in international research, adding greatly to our shared knowledge and understanding about the world’s many and diverse cultures. And finally, we have the challenge to disseminate information to wider and more diverse publics, meeting important public education and outreach needs in dynamic new ways."

    Abstract
    • Introduction The Implementation of Museum Web Sites Access to Collections on the Web
      Introduction
In the 17th century, Ole Worm's Museum Wormianum featured a marvelous array of materials both natural and cultural. In 1655, it passed to Fredrik III, King of Denmark, who erected a new building opposite his castle to house the museum. The Kunstkammer , completed until after his death, featured seventy-five prehistoric exhibits. It was open to the public for an admissions fee paid to the curator. King Friedrik's museum included a number of archaeological objects, whose interpretation has changed the way we look at our ancient past. The Internet and the World Wide Web, by giving us a new medium for digital communication, have forever tranformed the relationships between museums and their audiences. The World Wide Web is currently being utilized by hundreds of institutions around the world to place materials within the walls of museums within the grasp of millions. While many of these instutions had taken advantage of earlier generations technology, such as Gopher servers, to provide information via computer networks, the Web's potential to create innovative, attractive, user-friendly environments for interactive computing has resulted in an explosion of approaches.

A student with a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology has acquired critical analysis skills, oral and written communication skills, "people" skills, and a great understanding of many different cultures, which have many applications in public service, political activism and the private sector. Like other students, Anthropology majors increase their marketability with gaining experience in a industry while in college, through internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work. Additionally, students can add to their range of knowledge by taking courses within or outside their major that would give them specific information useful in their career field of interest.

    Stephen Francis Borhegyi
Stephen Francis Borhegyi was born in 1921 in Budapest Hungary. Before going to a university Borhegyi went to St. Joseph Calasanz college preparatory school. He then enrolled in Peter Pazmany University in Budapest in 1938 and finished his undergraduate work there. In 1942 Borhegyi became an officer in the Hungarian army. When the Horthy government fell in 1944 Borhegyi joined the Hungarian underground and continued to fight the Nazis. After the war ended Borhegyi went back to Peter Pazmany, received his Ph.D. and graduated summa cum laude in 1946. After graduation he accepted positions as an instructor in the Department of Archeology and Anthropology at Peter Pazmany, and an assistantship in the classical and Near Eastern archeology section at the Hungarian National Museum. While working at the Hungarian National Museum he planned several large exhibits and engaged in field studies in Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Romania. In 1948, Borhegyi was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship, the Viking Fund, which brought him to the United States and he spent the summer at the Point of Pines Archeological Field School of the University of Arizona before beginning research in Guatemala along with the Carnage Institution of Washington D.C. While in Arizona Borhegyi met Suzanne Sims, a graduate student, and married her in 1949. They went on to have four children. While in Guatemala Borhegyi was asked to oversee the organization of the archeological study materials in the Guatemalan National Museum. After the project's completion his methods of store room organization were adopted by several Latin and North American museums. He also helped to organize and install exhibits at the Chichicastenango Museum and the Colonial Art Museum of Antigua, Guatemala. For his work he was given a diploma of Merit from the Archeological Institute of Guatemala.
