Kindred Spirits Foundation Our Mission: The Kindred Spirits Foundation was formed to increase awareness of alternative health options for companion animals. Currently, pet owners have limited options outside of traditional veterinary practices. It is our goal to provide more choices by educating the veterinary community and the public about the benefits of holistic modalities such as acupuncture, chiropractic and the use of medicinal herbs. One of the basic building blocks to good health is proper animal nutrition. We have started to question the consequences of eating processed food ourselves and consequently we are also starting to ask whether or not the feeding of processed food to our companion animals is in their best interest. The cancer epidemic among our animals is at an all time high. Disease is an indication that the immune system is not working as it should so we must first question whether or not we are giving our animals what they need to maintain health. One possible solution to this dilemma is research into current feeding practices. Most pet owners have been conditioned to believe that all companion animals must have yearly vaccinations as a disease preventative. It is not widely known that a simple titer test will indicate the level of immunity that an animal has to a particular disease. Some animals have lifetime immunity as a result of vaccinations given as a puppy. Why assault the immune system of an animal by vaccinating when it isn't necessary? It is this kind of thinking that needs to change and it is one of our goals to give the public the information necessary to make informed decisions about the health of their pets.
