Welcome! Spay/Louisiana is a grassroots volunteer coalition of animal welfare organizations and individual citizens working together to reduce the euthanasia of homeless pets in Louisiana. Our first project - the spay/neuter survey - will measure the availability and range of spay/neuter services in Louisiana , and provide a comprehensive directory of animal welfare resources across the state, including businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals providing the following services:
veterinary care spay/neuter subsidized or discounted spay/neuter respond to community animal-related complaints shelter unwanted, homeless or stray animals euthanize unwanted or homeless animals rescue, foster or provide sanctuary for animals educate about animal issues provide animal care or animal training assistance support and assistance for animal shelter traps or assistance with ferals or strays Anyone who is otherwise helping homeless animals in Louisiana.

AB 536 is a Common Sense Solution to Prevent Suffering
A bill (AB 536) to prevent abuse and neglect of animals by sleazy breeders is currently stuck in a state legislative committee, just like unloved animals are stuck in dirty cages filled to the brim at puppy mills around the state. If this bill is killed many animals will suffer and die too. A new law to guarantee minimum standards of humane care is desperately needed. On a daily basis, animals that were originally obtained from puppy mills and other unscrupulous breeders are surrendered to [shelters, humane societies, and animal rescues] because they are sick, aggressive or behave badly. These animals have been treated poorly since birth. Puppy mill pets don't received proper care, love or nutrition. They are abused and neglected, solely to profit the breeder or pet store they are sold at. Sick pets are also a consumer protection problem. People often end up paying hundreds or thousands of dollars in veterinary bills to (hopefully) cure a puppy mill pet.
