Whether assisting seniors to care and provide for their fur and feather kids, or working to see laws that protect the public enforced, Kind Planet believes in service. Ninety five percent of the work we do is done by volunteers. We have learned that the greatest gift is giving, that a life of service is well lived.
Holism is the foundation of our approach to Humane Education. Kindness and compassion will become the foundation of mankind’s consciousness and will govern choices. As we evolve towards that state of awareness, we will find that all life must be honored. We will realize that all life, and all that sustains life, is worthy of respect and care. We Invite you to join us in creating a community that celebrates life. Through focus on ourselves, our families, our community, our nation, and our planet, we will fill the world with kindness. ANIMAL RESCUE Kind Planet operates homes for animals, other than cats and dogs, which have been abandoned. Serving as an example of compassion, this program allows us to learn about and share information regarding state of the art care for the fur and feather kids we accept responsibility for.

Promoting Animal Welfare
Our Mission:
FIREPAW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting animal welfare through research and education. Included among these efforts are the development and execution of research projects and educational programs designed to reduce the levels of abuse, abandonment, neglect and overpopulation of companion animals. FIREPAW is also committed to eliminating the indiscriminate use of sentient animals in painful or lethal laboratory research, factory farming, and the exploitation of animals for entertainment purposes.
FIREPAW's efforts are guided by the belief that substantial, long-term improvements in the treatment of animals can only be achieved through
(a) research designed to uncover the reasons behind animal mistreatment, as well as the most effective methods for redressing these problems, and
(b) educational programs designed to change the public's consciousness about animal welfare and animal rights.

In 2003, the sessions included, meeting the local Inspector Fiona Greig, gettting to grips with some reptile friends, looking at animal behavior, a behind the scenes tour of the centre, finding out from those involved what it's really like to work with animals all day, and meeting many, many animals. The feedback from this year's course was very positive.

For 70 years there has been only one United Kingdom Catholic society concerned with every aspect of animal welfare and theology - Catholic Concern for Animals. Registered Charity No. 231022 Catholic Concern for Animals is concerned with the plight of animals and with the Christian Church, particularly the Roman Catholic, in its theology and practice in relation to animal creation. It is educational, in research and study, and it raises awareness of the authentic, pro-animal, Christian tradition. Our Mission Catholic Concern for Animals exists to influence society world-wide into becoming more compassionate towards the animal creation and more aware of the inter-relatedness of all creatures under God. We research and disseminate authentic teachings of the Catholic Tradition and of other religious beliefs to help bring about a way of living in accordance with the Creator's design. We support and encourage those working towards these aims.

Animal rights, animal welfare: which is it?
Throughout the first half of the 20th Century, animal owners improved standards of care for their livestock, lab animals, and pets, tossing out harsh, ineffective, and inefficient methods and embracing a kinder, gentler stewardship of animals. Some people talked about the “rights” of animals to food, water, shelter, and care, but the emphasis was on improving our relationship with animals, not tossing it to the winds. However, in the 1960s, talk of animal rights took on new and more sinister meaning; today animal rights advocates shout in the marketplace of ideas about animals, and they poison the climate with their rhetoric. The noise they generate confuses the public about both animal welfare and animal rights, so NAIA offers this assessment of the differences between the two. Animal welfare celebrates the bond between animals and humans; animal rights wants to sever that bond. "It is time we demand an end to the misguided and abusive concept of animal ownership. The first step on this long, but just, road would be ending the concept of pet ownership."

About Us Field Projects How You Can Help Publications ... Animals in Education Animals in Education
The Humane Society of the United States recognizes the importance of biology studies within all levels of education. As the "study of life," biology programs should be designed to instill in students an interest in, and respect for, all living things. The HSUS believes that these objectives are best met when biology education focuses on animals as living, sentient creatures, emphasizing their behavior, life history patterns, and relationships with their environment. The HSUS offers a wide variety of information for teachers and students pertaining to dissection and the use of animals in education. Our online dissection resources include but are not limited to:
    • A listing of and links to dissection laws/student choice policies from various states.
    • Frequently asked questions about dissection.
The HSUS has also developed an Animals and Society Courses project whose aim is to expand the presence of college courses concerned with animal ethics, animal rights, and/or animal welfare. As part of this effort, we maintain a list of those courses currently offered. While acting as a barometer of the current state of education in this arena, the list also notifies students interested in such studies, provides information to faculty who may be considering such courses, and serves as a resource to share with administrators at schools not yet offering such courses. Each year, The HSUS presents awards for academic excellence in the design and instruction of Animals and Society Courses. These awards are intended to help foster the availability of high-quality curricula and instruction in a variety of relevant academic fields.
