Educational Farm to Promote Animal Welfare
The London, England-based Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad
recently began establishing a farm near the Hassanieh School for Girls in
Amman, Jordan so the students - and others - can learn how to properly care
for chickens, donkeys, dogs and other animals.
The farm, which is being established at the request and with the cooperation
of the Jordanian Ministry of Education, will provide a model environment for
each of the animals kept on it. In addition, there will be an animal pool
and exhibition area, as well as a classroom, on the farm.
Individuals taking courses offered by farm staff members will learn about
not only domestic animals, but wildlife and ecosystems. The Society, which plans to begin operating the farm in September, currently runs three mobile veterinary clinics, three animal welfare education centers and 115 school animal welfare clubs in Jordan. "We expect students who are members of the...clubs to be the main visitors to the farm," said a Society spokesperson. "However, it will be open to
