Dog lovers don red and black ribbons for breed ban awareness campaign For Immediate Release:
August 28, 2000

Portland, Oregon: The National Animal Interest Alliance urges dog lovers everywhere to wear red and black ribbons to show support for responsible dog ownership and opposition to Germany's breed bans and restrictions.
Citing dog training as a key element of responsible dog ownership and the sensible alternative to breed-specific laws, NAIA extends the red-and-black ribbon solidarity campaign to cities and towns all over America, especially where breed-specific bans have been proposed or already passed into law.

Noah's Ark Animal Welfare Association  Rt. 46 Ledgewood, NJ 07852 Please help Cozette , our senior Lab mix female with the cost of her surgery to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in her hind leg. She is a wonderful, docile creature who was surrendered into a kill facility and due to her advanced age and injury to her leg, was deemed hopeless! A handful of wonderful volunteers from MD, who help transport animals to safety, especially Laurie Spencer, rescued Cozette and helped return her to our shelter where she was originally adopted. Cozette needs this surgery, but it is very expensive and because we have so many pets in residence to care for, we are asking the public for help. Please, she has come so far, don't let her luck run out now! Update : Noah's Ark received a donation of $350 from an wonderful person who wishes to remain anonymous in order to start the wheels in motion by helping Cozette get this much needed surgery. If you would like to donate to this cause, simply send in your donations marked "Cozette" or simply stop by the shelter and meet with her yourself and see the canister we have on the front desk especially for her surgery. You may even fall in love and whisk her away to her new homeafterall, fairytales do happen... Still missing: Here's Apricot (funny name but came in with it). He is a 3 yr. old neutered male Shep mix who is very sweet but extremely shy unless he knows you then he is a lap dog. He loves other dogs. It would be best if someone spots him to try and corral this dog in an enclosed area and call for help. Any sightings should also be called in to Noah's Ark Shelter at (973) 347-0378 or into your local Animal Control Office for Noah's Ark. Thank you!

Man makes dogs bite By Robin Tierney
Originally published Jan 31 2001 With an eye on irresponsible and abusive dog owners, Del. Kenneth Montague Jr. of Baltimore City will introduce a bill in the General Assembly to increase penalties for intentional animal abuse, acknowledging the demonstrated link between animal abuse and human violence. Companion legislation will be introduced by Sen. Philip Jimeno of Anne Arundel County. AS SOME PIT BULLS make local headlines, others quietly serve as family pets, therapy dogs, search-and-rescue partners even teachers.
Petunia For example, Petunia visits area classrooms with the Greenbelt-based Partnership for Animal Welfare's Responsible Pet Owner (RPO) program. "Petunia waited while 40 children petted her," said Towson parent Karen Sindall. "I've never seen a more warm, loving and patient dog." Yet Petunia is a pit bull, a name applied to several breeds originally bred for strength, agility, dog-fighting and worth noting absence of aggression toward humans, because handlers had to work closely with the dogs. Today, bull breeds score high on temperament tests, and the majority are family pets.

Dog Bite Reports
The statistics on dog bite related fatalities vary considerably between studies. Nevertheless, there are numerous problems with most dog bite statistics. First and foremost, the vast majority of these statistics provide raw numbers, and are not normalized to reflect the prevalence of any given breed in the overall population of dogs. Without this information, it is impossible to determine the comparative risk of one breed over another from dog bite.

Such activities will include the paying of legal fees, educational material, and political activism. To our knowledge this is the first and only fund developed specifically to create legal change and used to effectuate political outcomes. Thousands of individuals every year have their Pit Bulls and other breeds targeted by Breed Specific Laws confiscated and destroyed based on the idea of gaining political favoritism, faulty and inconclusive data presented as fact, and sheer spite. Most areas have animal welfare laws that will accomplish the same end goal as Breed Specific Legislation purports to do. These laws protect the rights of individuals who are responsible and punish those individuals who are not. The biggest problem with these existing animal welfare laws is their reluctance to and lack of enforcement. This is negligence and dereliction of duty pure and simple. For municipalities who have these laws and do not enforce them yet turn to BSL and punish responsible owners this is will no longer be tolerated. This is discrimination and constitutionally unacceptable.

American Pit Bull Registry ( APBR ) Everything Pit Bull Pit Bull Registration made easy, Support unparalleled PO Box 1036 Antioch, TN 37011 www.PitBullRegistry.com www.AmericanPitBullRegistry.com Reporting Neglect and Abuse The Pit Bull is probably the most abused and neglected breed of dog in existence. Because of the unfair treatment so many Pit Bulls face it is inevitable that a certain percentage of these will act out against humans. This is not because of the breed but because of irresponsible ownership. In order to combat the negative image the American Pit Bull Terrier ( APBT ) has it is our responsibility as responsible Pit Bull dog owners to reduce the level of mistreatment the breed faces by those who are irresponsible. It is important to note there is a difference between neglect and abuse and the handling of each can vary depending on the situation involved. Neglect is often a product of being unable to take care of one's Pit Bulls. This can be due to causes of financial difficulties, physical difficulties, or simple ignorance. Other times it can be simply that the owner does not care for the suffering the animal faces and/or in general has a callous disregard for life.

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL KENNEL COUNCIL TAIL DOCKING PRESS RELEASE
The Australian National Kennel Council [ANKC] totally opposes any move to ban the tail docking of some breeds of purebred dogs. Opponents of tail docking now claim that it is performed for cosmetic reasons because their previous claims such as 'cruelty' cannot be substantiated and fail in logic. The ANKC rejects the claim that tail docking is carried out for cosmetic reasons. Tail docking is a long established animal management practice based upon injury prevention and health enhancement. In the United Kingdom 64 practising and experienced veterinarians have publicly opposed any move to ban tail docking and a further 37 have committed to the opposition. They have done so due to their belief that docking does serve a useful purpose, that their experience has shown docked puppies experience no adverse effects, and that the opposition to docking is not based on science and considered reason.

It took three baths to reveal the beautiful Australian Shepherd underneath coats of reddish mud and dust. After several weeks with us in foster care, a longer period with a great Aussie Rescue foster family, and a brief inappropriate placement, Harley went to his "forever" home with someone who appreciates him as he deserves. Who could possibly not appreciate a dog like this? Yes, all three of the pictures below also show rescued dogsone from a shelter, two from breed rescue. Right: Kohl, who arrived with severe demodectic mange and bad hips, belonged to a student who couldn't cope with his terrible health problems. As a responsible owner who wanted the best for the dog, he listed Kohl with German Shepherd Rescue. The picture you see here was taken nearly eight years later. Today Kohl is going strong at nearly ten years of age. At left (click for larger picture): Kirsten, who was found tied to a shelter fence, and weighing only 43 pounds, regained excellent health. She lived several more happy years despite a chronic condition, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency.
