Who We Are
West End Shelter for Animals is a private, registered, non-profit organization. We are a no-kill pet placement and adoption center located in Ontario, California. We receive no government funding; our revenues come strictly from fees for services, donations, fundraising efforts, and our low-cost vaccination clinic. The shelter was established in 1954 as the local humane society, and in 1994 was converted to the present no-kill alternative facility. Visitors are always welcome!

More than 60 animal-shelters as well as partner-organizations in the field of animal- and nature-protection are supported by the ETN e.V.. Some of the various tasks which our members are engaged in are: * Promotion of castration-precautions in South- and Easteurope
These are carried out in cooperation with local authorities, veterinary surgeons, and animal-protection organizations and are to be understood as help to self-help. It is planned to set up castration-stations, to support local veterinary surgeons, and to make use of mobile surgery-stations, where it proves sensible.
*Promotion and distribution of the idea of animal- and nature-protection
It is planned that animal- and nature-protection experts give lectures at schools, kindergartens, etc. The necessary information material will be provided by our organization. We are working on special literature, that can also be used for teaching purposes.

These albums are maintained by volunteers who are interested in helping get guinea pigs adopted OUT of the shelters BEFORE they have to go to a rescue, if there IS a rescue nearby and if the rescue has room. No adoption and no rescue means the guinea pig is put down at most shelters.
If you are interested in volunteering to take photos at a shelter near you, please contact us at: Shelters@CavyRescue.com . You need to be in fairly regular (weekly) contact with the shelter for updates on adoptable guinea pigs and taking new photos when necessary and sending them in via email.
Please, ADOPT and a save a life. Adopt from Shelters Rescues , or private rehoming situations . Avoid pet stores and breeders and be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

S P E C I A L E D I T I O N- - - This is a virtual Newspaper about the cat sanctuary and is updated two times a year.
Thanks to our Italian and international friends

People from all walks of life have passed through the Cat Sanctuary of Torre Argentina; Canadian airline pilots, Catalan revolutionaries from Spain, priests, nuns, Kibbutz living Israelis, Roman cleaning ladies, bank presidents, nannies escorting well-off children around the city, unemployed people who need a friendly place to stop by, retired people who are looking for a place to chat, writers inspired by our ancient surroundings, foreign students here to soak up culture, people from developing countries visiting an animal shelter for the first time and politicians from extreme right and left philosophies.
These are just a hand ful of the approximately 8,000 annual visitors to Torre Argentina. As different as they may be in race, religion, political persuasion or financial standing, one value unites them all respect for animals and, for many, a deep reverence for life. These universal values have transcended all cultural diversities and have moved mountains for Torre Argentina and the abandoned cats of Rome.

Frequently Asked Questions
I found a dog or cat. What should I do? First, check for a collar and tags. If the pet has an ID tag, call the owner. If it has a rabies tag, call your county animal control to locate the veterinarian who issued that tag. The vet can contact the owner. No tags? Call the local animal control, humane societies, shelter and veterinarians to report a "found" animal. These places may keep listings, or know of the individual that lost the animal. Make "Found" posters to put around the neighborhood, especially at major intersections. You can also list found animals for free in the classified section of PetFinder , or for a few dollars, you can run an ad in the local paper. I lost my pet. What should I do? Does Happy Tales Humane take in animals from the public? How does it work? Yes, we do take both owned and stray dogs and cats, but we are not a "drop shelter". Space in both our shelter and in our foster homes is limited. In a typical week, we receive 100-200 requests to fill only 10-20 spaces. We will take your information about the pet, and the dog or cat adoption coordinator will call you IF WE HAVE SPACE AVAILABLE! If you don't hear back in a week or two, assume we had no openings, call again and let us know you still need help. We can also recommend rescue groups that work with specific dog/cat breeds, rabbits, caged birds and wildlife.

see MAP HERE ). At present SPARE has no other animal, cat or dog shelters in Egypt.
  • The SPARE Animal Shelter in Egypt is basically two shelters in one. The dog shelter can house up to 50 dogs. To complement the dog shelter is a new cat shelter (inaugurated July 2003) able to care for approximately 30 cats. Both the dog shelter and the cat shelter are strictly "no kill". Most of the cats and dogs we nurse back to health and put up for adoption are found in the streets of Cairo, some barely alive. Meet our mascot HOPSY one such animal. He is now a wonderful, happy yet severely handicapped dog. The Animal Shelters Pet Adoption success in Egypt has been good and climbing due to the hard work of our volunteers and the response to this Web Site. In the drawing board stage, to the cat and dog Animal Shelter is an expansion for donkeys, mules and horses to be built as funds become available.

  • THE ANIMAL CLINIC
  • The Clinic treats many sick animals free of charge belonging to the many animal owners that are economically disadvantaged. Such owners are meticulously instructed on how to care for their animals humanely on a regular daily basis. The SPARE Animal Clinic in Egypt has it's own modest operating room, used mainly for in-house neutering. Spaying (for the time being), are performed in local vet clinics. The clinic is staffed by professional paid vets and volunteers.
  • Seriously sick equines are sent to the renown BROOKE HOSPITAL who specialize predominantly in working equines worldwide. Less serious cases are treated in the clinic.
