By Host Wanted Population : 12,000
Capital : The Valley
Language : English
Political Status : British Dependent Territory
Area : 35 square miles (90 sq km)
History
Anguilla was colonized by English settlers from St. Kitts (then called St. Christopher) in 1650. In 1824, following a new British administrative framework, the island was to be administered over by St Kitts. Despite several entreaties to the British for direct administration by Britain, the Anguillans could not get out of this association.
In 1967 Anguilla rebelled and declared its independence from the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla Federation : they felt that they were ignored and misunderstood by St Kitts, the larger island. But Britain did not recognize this action. In 1969 British troops landed in the island and a truce was signed. In 1971 Anguilla became a dependency of Britain. It was officially separated from St. Kitts and Nevis in 1980.
Good to know
The crime rate is close to non-existent, as well as poverty. Christopher Columbus never landed in Anguilla, though he did sail pass it in 1493

Culture Anguilla's West Indian culture is a blend of British and African influences. Because of the dry and barren nature of the island, the small population on Anguilla has traditionally struggled to make ends meet and has looked toward the sea, in the form of fishing and boatbuilding, for its livelihood. One consequence of this seafaring heritage is a penchant for boat racing. Aside from the boxy modern buildings in The Valley, visitors will notice that the predominant architectural style on Anguilla is unfinished concrete. Many Anguillians work abroad and return home periodically to make piecemeal additions to their property as their earnings permit, leaving foundations and unfinished walls scattered about the island.
