Beit She'an is a city with a very long history. It is situated on a main crossroads about 25 miles south- east of Tiberias and is 390 feet below sea level. The excavations of Tel Bet She'an proved the importance of the place as a station for caravans and a center of Egyptian rule probably as early as the 15th century b.c.e. An Egyptian basalt stone found there, dating from the late 14th century b.c.e., has an inscription which mentions the Habiru (thought by some to be the ancient Hebrews), who disturbed the peace and undermined government authority in the region. The valley of Bet She'an was the portion of the tribe of Issachar, but the tribe of Manasseh extended its settlements to this territory. During Saul's reign the city was in the hands of the Philistines, but in the time of Solomon it was again under Jewish rule. The wall, the gate, and the style of stone-cutting in the hill belong to the Solomonic period.

Introduction
Imagine that you live in a new age of time travel. You have been recruited to test a new mode of time transportation. You will be making your trial run to ancient civilizations. What do you think you will find there? How different will ancient times be as compared to how you live today? Back to top
Task
While you are exploring this ancient period, you will be keeping a personal journal. You will need to include lots of details so you can share your experiences effectively as a museum exhibit. You will publish your journal and recreate, as a diorama, an accurate portrayal of life in that time and place. Back to top
Process
As you set off on your journey, keep in mind the following criteria to make note of as you navigate through ancient civilization websites:
  • timelines events architecture housing rituals/religion/customs food clothing art/music tools (cooking, building, hunting, etc.) mode of survival (hunting?) travel government/rulers economics/method of exchange
Also keep in mind that your journal will serve as your notes with which to compose your published piece. You may publish your information in newsletter, essay or booklet format. Once you have completed your publishing, you will find a partner with whom to compare notes.

Prophecy and prediction
earth changes and the millennium
Prophecy has always been around since recorded time. Some of the oldest is from Egypt. Every time there were strains on the status quo regarding their society, certain people gave forecasts of dire things as an outcome of the changing conditions. This process has continued throughout history up to the present, where the tradition of revealing the seen future continues. It was the same then as it is today, people feel a change in society and they make a prophecy regarding the outcome. Some of these can be attributed to projections of the intellect and the analytical capability of the individual. They can take current events, review the recent past, mix in a knowledge of history, and then come to some fairly accurate conclusions about one thing or another. Lots of people saw WW II years before it happened. There have been prophecies and predictions about every type of event, some of which, happened, and some which didn't. This type of prophecy is engaged in by everyone, it being an extension of a person's intellect and logical processes. Just the slightest change in any of the conditions upon which a prediction was based, can affect the outcome. It then has to be recalculated again and a new conclusion or outcome has to be offered in place of the previous one. They may have been completely on the mark at the outset, but when the underlying cause for it changes, so does the outcome.

The PREMIER JOURNEY to The Ancient World, weaving together the Peoples of those lands and civilizations and the way they lived and - their thoughts, their hopes, their dreams, their lives.
What is the Ancient World? Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Sumer, Nubia, Persia, Byzantium, Turkey? Or is it Assyrians, Chaldeans, Hebrews, Hittites, Akkadians, Etruscans, Minoans? Is it Alexander, Plato, Virgil, Socrates, Hammurabi, Aristotle, Nefertiti, the Pharaohs, Emperors, Caesar, Cleopatra, Sargon, Akhenaton, the Black Athena, Homer? Or is it the dinosaurs, Stonehenge, hunters, slaves, women, rulers, soldiers, or the Iliad, the Aeneid, the Odyssey, the Olympics? Is it found in the ruins, temples, forums, pyramids or in the remnants of ordinary life? Explore through this Web Book and the Online College Course. Ancient Civilization did not begin in what we think of as the West. It did not start in Paris or Berlin or London or Prague or Brussels or Stockholm. It grew out of the Mediterranean breezes, the sun and desert of Northern Africa, the Persian and West Asian lands. To study Ancient Civilization is to travel - across parts of Africa, southern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to India. It is a linking voyage, not a reducing trip. It CONNECTS peoples, ideas, patterns, developments, organizations, wars, religions, art, architecture, food and drink. It is a human endeavor about a human story.

What is an Astrolabe?
The astrolabe is a very ancient astronomical computer for solving problems relating to time and the position of the Sun and stars in the sky. Several types of astrolabes have been made. By far the most popular type is the planispheric astrolabe , on which the celestial sphere is projected onto the plane of the equator. A typical old astrolabe was made of brass and was about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter, although much larger and smaller ones were made. Astrolabes are used to show how the sky looks at a specific place at a given time. This is done by drawing the sky on the face of the astrolabe and marking it so positions in the sky are easy to find. To use an astrolabe, you adjust the moveable

THE MILL OF TIME
Celestial Cycles And Ancient Mythological Science
Terry Alden
We are on the verge today of a much greater appreciation for the scientific achievements of the world's most ancient civilizations and an understanding of the workings of the ancient mind. At a time when it is still fashionable for scientists to dismiss the possibility that the learned men of remote antiquity, long before the classical-period Greeks or the later Romans, could have known about phenomena like precession (the extremely slow wobble of the Earth's axis of rotation) without modern instruments, or about the spherical shape and dimensions of our planetary spacecraft or its orbit about the Sun as the center of a solar system, a few lone investigators have recently found traces of a very high degree of scientific sophistication and knowledge of the natural world preserved in a metaphorical code which we call myth. It is ultimately the purpose of this article to provide a solution to the long-standing mystery of the "Star of Bethlehem" and, in a closely-related problem, to announce the date of the beginning of the New Age, the Age of Aquarius, as determined by a method believed to be the same one used by the ancient Magi of Chaldea and other astronomical priesthoods in very early times. These topics will indeed be covered in the second part of this report. The validity of the statements to be made on these subjects, however, rests on the foundation of the logic and integrity of the system or method of very-long-term time reckoning which the Magi and others, it is believed, followed a system based on both planetary and precessional cycles. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the background or context in which our more specific later tasks will be seen to fit before dealing with them individually. This context turns out to be nothing less than the ancient holistic world-view or paradigm which Joseph Campbell identified as the World Monomyth.
