Myth and Legend from Ancient Times to the Space Age
"Therefore, even the lover of myth is in a sense a philosopher; for myth is composed of wonders."
Aristotle
In common parlance, a myth is a fiction something which is untrue. Scholars of mythology define myth differently: a myth is a special kind of story which tries to interpret some aspect of the world around us. Robert W. Brockway, in his book Myth from the Ice Age to Mickey Mouse concisely summarizes a number of different scholarly ideas about the meaning of myth as follows: A collective definition of myth composed of many theories might be framed by the following paraphrase: Myths are stories, usually, about gods and other supernatural beings (Frye). They are often stories of origins, how the world and everything in it came to be in illo tempore The terms legend and folktale are sometimes used interchangeably with myth. Technically, however, these are not the same. How should we distinguish them? Donna Rosenberg, in her book

    Syntax
There is limited support for mensural time signatures. Currently, the glyphs are hard-wired to particular time fractions. In other words, to get a particular mensural signature glyph with the command, n and m have to be chosen according to the following table: Use the style property of grob TimeSignature to select ancient time signatures. Currently supported styles are and mensural . The above table uses the style. This style is appropriate e.g. for the incipit of transcriptions of mensural pieces. The mensural style mimicks the look of historical printings of the 16th century. input/test/time.ly gives an overview over all available ancient and modern styles.

    Bugs
Mensural signature glyphs are currently mapped to time fractions in a hard-wired way. This mapping is sensible, but still arbitrary: given a mensural time signature, the time fraction represents a modern meter that usually will be a good choice when transcribing a mensural piece of music. For a particular piece of mensural music, however, the mapping may be unsatisfactory. In particular, the mapping assumes a fixed transcription of durations (e.g. brevis = half note in 2/2, i.e. 4:1). Some glyphs (such as the alternate glyph for 6/8 meter) are currently not at all accessible through the command.

This publication is based on research by Dr. David Morrison of The Canadian Museum of Civilization. Includes vintage and contemporary photos and illustrations.

T he Inuit living in the western Canadian Arctic call themselves "Inuvialuit" or "real human beings." Their homeland stretches from the Alaskan border east to Amundsen Gulf and the western edge of the Canadian Arctic Islands. It is a land of rolling tundra and high, rocky mountains, bisected by the labyrinth of the Mackenzie River Delta. The traditional culture of the Inuvialuit was shattered by European infectious diseases in the late 19th century, before it could be described in writing in any great detail. What we do know has been pieced together from traditional oral histories, archaeological research, and the writings of the various 19th-century explorers, fur traders, and missionaries who visited the western Arctic. the Holy Lamb of God
A Christian symbol for Jesus Christ. In Blake, the Lamb is a symbol of innocence and gentleness. The Feet in line 1 are therefore the feet of Jesus.
    Countenance Divine
Contenance means "face" and "divine" means literally " belonging to God. Blake is asking whether Jesus could have walked among the hills and fields of England, and if God Himself could have looked down from heaven, His face shining with joy.
    clouded hills
The tops of the hills are hidden in cloud, bringing life-giving rain. But the clouds also suggest mist, fog, and the darkness to come ...
    Jerusalem builded here
Jerusalem in Christianity means not only the city in Israel where Christ taught and where he was put to death, but also a perfect city, where God's mercy, love and justice rule its people. It became a symbol for Heaven itself. Builded is an old poetic form of "built".
