    Cross Section Of Ear
Cochlear Partition Organ Of Corti Cross Section Of Ear : consisting of the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear Outer Ear: Comprising the pinna ear cana l, and outer layer of the eardrum . Sound enters the ear canal. At the eardrum, sound energy (air pressure changes) are transformed into mechanical energy of eardrum movement. Pinna : The pinna is composed of cartilage and has a relatively poor blood supply. It presence on both sides of the head allows us to localize the source of sound from the front vs. the back. Our ability to localize from side to side depends on the relative intensity and relative phase of sound reaching each ear and the analysis of the phase/intensity differences within the brainstem. And, of course, the lobe of the pinna is handy for single or multiple hoops, loops, diamonds, etc. Cartilaginous Portion of External Ear Canal The ceruminous and sebaceous glands in the cartilaginous portion of the ear canal combine to produce cerumen. Anatomy of the Penis, Mechanics of Intercourse
This page presents information that most parents are not aware of at the time they make the circumcision decision. Doctors usually do not provide this information. If you are under 18, we recommend that you share and discuss this information with your parents. For a further look at this anatomy, including photographs, visit Circumstitions (Hugh Young). Hugh's site also includes an excellent animation to illustrate retraction.
    Fig. 1. Intact adult penis
This illustration represents an average normal adult human penis. The head of the penis (glans) has a covering, called the foreskin (prepuce). This covering folds in on itself, forming a double layer. The foreskin is not a `flap' of skin on the end of the penis, and it is not `useless' or `redundant' skin. There is some natural variation in the length of the foreskin, which often covers a bit more or less of the glans than illustrated. In an average circumcised adult man, the area of skin that is missing because of penile reduction surgery would, when erect and unfolded, measure approximately three by five inches, or a little smaller than a postcard. That is about half the total skin of the penis.

    Introductory Anatomy: Digestive System
Dr D.R.Johnson, Centre for Human Biology
Purpose The digestive system prepares food for use by hundreds of millions of body cells. Food when eaten cannot reach cells (because it cannot pass through the intestinal walls to the bloodstream and, if it could would not be in a useful chemical state. The gut modifies food physically and chemically and disposes of unusable waste. Physical and chemical modification (digestion) depends on exocrine and endocrine secretions and controlled movement of food through the digestive tract. Mouth Mouth Food enters the digestive system via the mouth or oral cavity, mucous membrane lined. The lips (labia) protect its outer opening, cheeks form lateral walls, hard palate and soft palate form anterior/posterior roof. Communication with nasal cavity behind soft palate. Floor is muscular tongue. Tongue has bony attachments (styloid process, hyoid bone) attached to floor of mouth by frenulum.
Posterior exit from mouth guarded by a ring of palatine/lingual tonsils. Enlargement = sore throat, tonsillitis.

To understand the function of the prepuce, it is necessary to understand the function of the penis. While it is commonly recognized that the penis has two functions urination and procreation - in reality, it is essential only for procreation, since it is not required for urination.

Review Summary Adapted from a novel of Robert Traver, ANATOMY OF A MURDER was directed in 1959 by Otto Preminger. James Stewart accepts to defend an army officer accused of having murdered in cold blood a bartender who assaulted his wife. Will he be able to convince the court that Ben Gazzara was temporarily insane at the moment of the murder ? That's the point of this terrific court movie. A must.

  • Understand the role of high endothelial venules in lymphocyte traffic
  • Describe the passage of lymph through lymph nodes and understand how this facilitates the immune response to antigens
  • Describe the anatomical location of the spleen
  • Describe the splenic blood supply
  • Describe the cellular composition of the red and white pulp
  • Understand the contribution of the spleen to the immune response
  • Predict the possible effects of splenectomy
  • Describe the common sites and the cellular constituents of mucosa associated lymphoid tissue
  • Describe the process and purpose of lymphocyte recirculation
    Introduction
The immune system operates throughout the body. There are, however, certain sites where the cells of the immune system are organised into specific structures. These are classified as central lymphoid tissue (bone marrow, thymus) and peripheral lymphoid tissue (lymph nodes, spleen, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue):
