Running time: 90 minutes.
Rated PG-13 (for intense adventure violence, and for brief language and sensuality). Opening line in film: "Alone among snakes, anacondas are unique. After eating their prey, they regurgitate in order to eat again.'' This film is loaded with biblical images of the Garden of Eden and the book of Revelation. The movie opens with a documentary film crew going into the Paradise of the Amazon Rain Forests in search of the People of the Mist. But there is trouble in Paradise in the form of a snake. The trouble begins when the crew picks up a stranded, evil ex-Catholic Priest, Paul Sarone, who comes across as an "angel of light." He also has a curious love for snakes. The hero of the film, Dr. Kelly, has a death type experience from a poisonous wasp. He is placed in his bedroom (tomb) and later, of course, has a resurrection and helps liberate the crew from the evil Priest and snake.

Geography 316: Biogeography Revised 5/20/00 bh The Biogeography of the Green Anaconda Eunectus murinus by Joshua Lail, student in Geography 316 Kingdom: Animalia

Class: Reptilia

Anaconda's are seldom found far from water and inhabit a very large variety of aquatic environments including rivers, large and small streams, lakes, ponds, swamps, ditches, temporary pools, and flooded forests. In addition, they can be found in areas, such as, dry forests, and the llanos (a seasonally inundated tropical savannah) primarily because of the abundance of surface water in these areas for six to eight months during the wet season (Strimple 1993). Bacon (1978) reported that Trinidad anacondas have adapted to human modified environments, and it has become common in abandoned gravel pits that are rich in waterfowl, frogs, and fish. Anacondas are also found in sheltered waterways close to settlements in the country where poultry is reared (Quelch 1898). Natural History: Opinions on the size attained by anacondas have been offered by many herpetologists and zoologists, some of whom actually had field experience and personally measured them. They range in size from 10.5 feet to about twenty five feet (Murphy 1997). The issue of how large snakes get, has been clouded by authors suggesting that the supersnakes (snakes reported to be in the 50 to 100 foot range) are species not currently known to science, but instead represent undiscovered species (Murphy 1997). Perry (1970) devoted an entire chapter to

"Before 1992, no one knew anything about it, and you can't really know anything about an animal by building computer models in the lab. You have to put on the shoes of the snake and wear them. That way you learn the difference between the truth and what you think the truth is."

Anaconda
(Eunectes murinus) The anaconda's kingdom is animalia. Its phylum is chordata. Its class is reptila. Its order is squamata. Its family is boidae. Water boa is another name for the anaconda. The Green Anaconda is dark green in color with black oval patches on its back. Its sides have similar spots with yellow centers. Because of its coloring it blends in well with the wet, dense plants that grow around where it lives. Each anaconda has its own distinct pattern. No other anaconda has one exactly like the other. It's one way you can tell one snake from the other. The patterns are like fingerprints in humans. Anacondas are one of the heaviest snakes in the world. A reticulated python may grow longer, but an anaconda weighs more. A 20 foot anaconda weighs more than a 33 foot python. The longest recorded anaconda was nearly 29 feet long. Like the crocodiles, the anaconda's nostrils are on top of its head. A 30 foot adult has a striking range of 15-25 feet. Anacondas live in South America, east of the Andes, mainly in the Amazon and Orinoco River basins, and in the Guianas. Their habitat is marshes, brushes, and swamps. They are never found far away from water. The swamps are their favorite spots. When kept out of the water, an anaconda's body becomes infested with ticks. The anaconda gives birth to live young. The gestation period is 6 months. A female can have up to 20-40 babies and sometimes as many as 100. The young are usually 2 feet long. A couple hours after they are born, the young can swim, hunt and care for themselves. After the anaconda reaches sexual maturity it continues to grow, but it grows at a slower rate.

Room 2 Crocker Farm School - Mrs. Streeter's Class Room 2's Writing Animal Reports Drawing Map ... Comments Anaconda by Israel I chose the anaconda because its name is from India. Did you know that the anaconda can eat some animals that are bigger than him? Name
The anaconda snake is from the family of reptiles. The anaconda's scientific name is Eunectes murinus . Like all reptiles, it is cold-blooded. Snakes like the anaconda breathe oxygen from the air. The anaconda lives in the water and on land. It can hold its breath under water for about ten minutes. Some snakes that are related to the anaconda are the boa constrictor, python, and king snake. Description
The anaconda is hard to see because it likes to hide under bushes. Its color is green with big black spots. There is a yellow anaconda too, also with black spots. Its head is narrow with a fat body. Like all reptiles, it is covered with scales. The length of anacondas can often reach 29 feet. It can weigh 300 to 500 pounds. Female anacondas give birth to 20 to 40 babies at one time. The babies are born live, while most snakes are hatched from eggs. They can live for 30 years. Habitat
The anaconda lives in the jungle in South America, in the Guianas, east of the Andes Mountains, and mainly in the Amazon and Orinoco River regions. They like the wet, dense tropical vegetation. They do well in warm, dark, freshwater swamps. They also like to rest in the sun.

This is the Anacondas main diet because they can eat a lot of animals more by constricting them and then swallowing them whole. Anacondas are basically carnivores. The way they kill them is by squeezing them so tight that they will run out of air.
Predators: Humans have hunted them because they are very big and their skin ids to make shoes, purses, etc....

Adaptations: It has eyes really high in his head so that underwater he can see the preys from above withought getting out of the water. Also its color pattern of light green with black spots helps it camuflage in the forest. Finally the Anaconda blends in with the vegetation of its habitat and with the muddy water that the Anacondas love.
Interesting Facts:
  • considered the biggest snake in the world females usually are heavier than the males when Anacondas get out of the water for a long time they usually become infested with ticks.

``Alone among snakes, anacondas are unique. After eating their prey, they regurgitate in order to eat again.'' By Roger Ebert This information is included in the opening titles of ``Anaconda,'' and as the words rolled across the screen I heard a chuckle in the theater. It came from me. I sensed with a deep certainty that before the movie was over, I would see an anaconda regurgitate its prey. Human prey, preferably. ``Anaconda'' did not disappoint me. It's a slick, scary, funny Creature Feature, beautifully photographed and splendidly acted in high adventure style. Its snakes are thoroughly satisfying. The most dreaded predator of the Amazon, we learn, the anaconda can grow to 40 feet in length, and crushes its prey before engorging it whole (so whole that it eats an entire jaguar, leaving behind only a single poignant eyeball). These insights into anaconda lore come mostly from a character named Sarone, played by Jon Voight as a slimy river rat with a dangerous gleam in his eye. ``This river can kill you in a thousand ways,'' he intones, and we get the feeling that he can, too. The propeller of his boat is broken, and he's rescued by a small expedition that hopes to make a documentary about the People of the Mista legendary lost Amazon tribe. ``I know them,'' Sarone says. ``They saved my life.'' And are probably still regretting it.

    Anaconda

" Ghosts of Mars ") und Eric Stoltz (u.a. " Pulp Fiction ") - als Köder an das Monster zu verfüttern... Der Werbeslogan "You can't scream if you can't breathe" sagt alles... Ironischerweise schreien Anacondas, wenn sie getötet werden... ;-) Sequel zu "Anaconda" !!!

    57. Life History And Conservation Of The Green Anacondas (Eunectes Murinus)
this contribution we propose an alternative way of measuring snakes that is sample of measures taken from wild populations of green anacondas (Eunectes murinus
    http://pages.prodigy.net/anaconda/measure.htm
What is the length of a snake? Introduction Eunectes murinus ) with a large range of sizes. Methods To record naturalist measure of the length of the animal we muzzled the snake with a sock and tape (Rivas et al. 1995) followed a imaginary middle line of the body from head to tail with a string and then measured the length of the string by laying it loosely on a ruler ( Figure 1 ). This allowed us to record the actual length of the animal regardless of its position and without having to stretch it. A total of 82 newborn and 42 stillborn from 14 wild caught pregnant females were measured for this study. Three measurements of each animal were slightly different due to errors caused by the snake struggling and moving from under the string. Thus calculated the average of the three measures. We also recorded the TL of each snake in the sample using the conventional method of stretching them on a ruler. We used a sign test to compare both measures of each animal. We divided the measurements obtained with the stretching method by the measurements obtained with the string method in order to calculate a relationship between the two measures. In order to analyze the changes of this relationship in respect to size, we used the mass as an independent measure of the size of the animal. We performed a Spearman correlation test between the variables. The use of stillborn in this study was to remove the effect of the error introduced by the struggle of the animal; allowing us to to determine the actual TL of the animal.

    58. Predatory Attack Of A Green Anaconda (Eunectes Murinus) On An Adult Human Being.
Large constrictors snakes are potentially dangerous to people due to their size However, there are no documented attacks by green anacondas (Eunectes murinus

Large constrictors snakes are potentially dangerous to people due to their size and strength (Branch and Haacke 1980). However, there are no documented attacks by green anacondas ( Eunectes murinus ) on humans. The lack of documentation may be due to low human population in areas where anacondas are common, and to the nature of their behavior and the habitat where they live. In this note I document predatory strikes by green anacondas on two of my field assistants while conducting field research on green anaconda in the Venezuelan llanos. Eleocharis sp, Cyperacea) The other event was on another of my helpers (male, 1.74m 57 kg) while we were looking for snakes in a river covered by aquatic hyacinth ( Eichhornia ssp). After we walked by the snake without detecting it, the snake followed my helper, tongue flicking at him for approximately 2.5 m, raising itself up to 25 cm above the aquatic vegetation. The snake was seen and filmed by a photographer behind us who warned us about the snake. I managed to grab the snake by mid-body just as it struck to my helper who in turn jumped backwards. Both, me pulling the snake backwards and he moving out of reach made the snake fail and snap into the air ( Figure 1a to 1f , extracted from the tape). Upon catching and subduing the animal (Pen), She measured 445 cm in total length and 39 kg in weight. The overall appearance of the snake was healthy but very thin.

    http://ladywildlife.com/animal/anaconda.html
Anaconda To see pictures of animals click the blue dot.. The anaconda is the biggest snake in the world, even larger than the Old World python. Yet despite its size and strength, it has few defenses against humans – its main enemy. A larger version of the boa constrictor, the anaconda is a massive snake that kills its prey by squeezing it to death in its powerful coils. It then swallows its victim whole. Although it has an appetite for prey as large as wild pigs and deer, the huge anaconda is capable of surviving for months and even years without food. Habitat: The abundant streams, rivers, swamps, and pools of the tropical rainforests of Amazonia provide an ideal habitat for the anaconda. This heavy snake is more at home in the water than on land, and it swims with grace and agility. It can stay submerged for over 10 minutes at a time and often lies beneath the surface waiting for prey. The anaconda lets itself be carried downstream on the river’s current with only its head breaking the surface. Then it drifts to the bank and glides away into the thick undergrowth. The anaconda usually hunts at night. It spends the day lying in the shallows or basking in the sun, draped over the branches of a tree at the water’s edge. Like most snakes, it can climb well and it uses trees for refuge from predators. Only the most powerful predator, however, can subdue a full grown anaconda. Food and Hunting: The anaconda preys on deer, wild pigs, and large rodents such as the agouti, paca, and capybara. It also attacks aquatic animals like the caiman, a relative of the alligator. The anaconda lies in a murky pool to ambush animals coming to drink. It seizes its prey quickly with its sharp teeth and drags it into the water. The victim often drowns before it is killed. Like all boas, the anaconda kills by constriction, coiling itself around the prey and squeezing. The snake squeezes tighter each time the animal breathes out so it cannot breathe in again. It quickly dies from suffocation. The anaconda swallows its victim whole. It can stretch its mouth around prey twice the width of its head because its jawbones are loosely attached to its skull and to each other. After a large meal, the anaconda sleeps for several days as it digests and may not feed again for weeks.
