    http://www.tweetsie.com/
Welcome to Tweetsie Railroad! North Carolina's original family theme park, Tweetsie Railroad is located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina in Blowing Rock, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Since 1957, thousands of visitors to Tweetsie Railroad have enjoyed a "blast from the past" as they visit a western town, hop aboard an historic steam locomotive for a 3 mile trip around the mountain, pan for gold, enjoy toe-tapping music and dancing, visit the animals in the petting zoo and take in the beautiful mountain scenery. The centerpiece of our Wild West town is Number 12, an historic narrow-gauge, coal-fired steam locomotive that originally carried passengers on a daily 66-mile route from Johnson City, Tennessee to Boone, North Carolina. Today, Number 12 is listed among the National Register of Historic Places, and continues to delight visitors of all ages. But come experience it for yourself. It's an adventure you won't want to miss!

was added to Castle Park in 1985 and offers something for everyone. With 32 major ride attractions, many games and tests of skill, just about every taste is accommodated. Entertainment is our goal and the brightly illuminated rides and attractions give the park a very festive atmosphere during the evening hours. One of the primary attractions is The Log Ride - Imagine one of the highest and steepest water rides ever built, pumping 20,000 gallons of water a minute, sending you along with a torrential current down a flume at 50 miles per hour, plunging you into 150,000 gallons of pure excitement! And, if you prefer to just enjoy the beauty, climb aboard one of our Two Trains and tour the park. Our small train was "retired" to Castle Park after having given more than 32 million people rides at Knotts Berry Farm. Along the way you will see many original antiques such as 18th Century wagons, authentic mining equipment, monitors used in the gold rush days, even a wagon from Belgium.
The Ride Park has the feeling of an old fashion "Midway" with games booths that offer prizes to the accomplished, and not so accomplished player. The many rides include Ferris Wheels, coasters like

    160. Amusement Park History
THese gardens were filled with games, music, and the first amusement rides. It is undoubtedly the world s oldest amusement park.
    http://ar.essortment.com/amusementparks_rlst.htm
    Amusement park history
Amusement park history: Amusements parks are popular places to take the family too every year. But, do you know how it all began? Find out!
You are probably familiar with Disneyland, Six Flags, and other theme/amusement parks that dot the country's landscape. But, did you realize that this type of park started years ago around the year 1550? That is when places that were called "Pleasure Gardens" were first built in Europe. THese gardens were filled with games, music, and the first amusement rides. Finally, political problems caused many of the gardens to close down in the 1700's. Amazingly, one of these parks remains in existence today. It is called "Bakken" and it is located north of Copenhagen. It was originally opened in the 1580's. It is undoubtedly the world's oldest amusement park. The number of rides continued to grow and become bigger when, in the sixteen hundreds, the Russians built a ride which used a sled on which to ride, and a long, icy slide. This ride is said to have evolved into the ever-popular roller coaster. An innovative man by the name of LaMarcus A. Thompson created what he called, "The Switchback Gravity Pleasure Railway" at the end of the 1800's. This was considered to be the first roller coaster in America. However, Lina Beecher created America's first vertical roller coaster in Toledo, Ohio a few years later. bodyOffer(31827) Following the roller coaster was George Ferris who unveiled his wheel ride at the Chicago Columbian Exposition. The Ferris Wheel stood over two hundred and fifty feet high and it amazed young and old alike!
