What exactly is amnesia?
A popular subject on the big screen and television (especially the daytime variety) is a form of memory loss known as amnesia . Stedman's Medical Dictionary defines amnesia as "a disturbance in the memory of information stored in long-term memory , in contrast to short-term memory , manifested by total or partial inability to recall past experiences." Amnesia is a condition in which someone can't recall stored memories, like their mom's maiden name or what happened last Christmas , but they may recall the knock-knock joke their little brother told them a few seconds ago. This is actually an example of retrograde amnesia Types of Amnesia
  • Anterograde amnesia - Inability to remember ongoing events after the incidence of trauma or the onset of the disease that caused the amnesia
  • Emotional/hysterical amnesia - Memory loss caused by psychological trauma; usually a temporary condition

AMNESIA: The universality of reincarnation and the preservation of psychological structure
by Titus Rivas, MA.
Abstract
In this paper, two questions are addressed: Is reincarnation a universal process? and To what extent is our psychological structure preserved from one life to another? The first question is answered affirmatively and the author gives a plausible explanation for the absence of conscious memories of previous lives in most people due to organic and functional factors of amnesia. About the preservation of psychological structure, the author concludes that structure is completely preserved, although much of it latently, in a dispositional form. Attention is also given to the consequences of the foregoing for our views on childhood and to the question whether amnesia concerning previous lives is functional.

Talking about D-Day...
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy by approximately 150,000 Allied forces. Every ten years, foreign leaders assemble there to reassert the principles represented and upheld by that invasion. This year's anniversary marks the first time a German Chancellor or Russian President was invited. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer very dramatically imported the significance of Schroeder’s speaking at Normandy: “And here, for the first time, a German Chancellor speaks at the D-Day memorial service.” Inexplicably, Schroeder was then faded to commercial without translation of what were probably pretty significant statements.
Briefly presented are two differing perspectives on what D-Day means, and how it to be forged in our memory. David Greenberg of Slate asks why we celebrate D-Day instead of V-E Day or V-J Day. In the Opinion pages of the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan suggests that “[D-Day] exalts us. We need to be exalted. It is hard to get up in the morning and pull on your socks and enter the day. It is hard to be a bus driver. But it is easier when you can think better of your passengers.”
Greenberg:
“The romance with World War II grunts and their courage on the beaches of France reflects more than a due regard for the feats of a dying generation. It represents a change of heart among their baby-boom children, who since entering middle age have sought to atone for the stern rejection of militaristic values and the insufficient appreciation of their fathers' heroism that they displayed when coming of age during Vietnam. But at a time when the culture's celebration of the martial has reached levels not seen since after the Civil War, a countervailing gust of Vietnam-era dissent would feel like a fresh summer wind.”

Amnesia
a screenplay by Urs Frei and John Scott 1. INT. HALLWAY. EARLY MORNING. We hear the sounds of shoes creaking before we see a man's feet walk into frame from behind us. He is wearing a shiny pair of formal black dress shoes and burgundy sweat pants tucked into extra white sports socks. We follow the feet to a door closed most of the way. He opens the door slightly and reveals a figure in bed asleep. On the floor in the room we see scattered tapes and CD's next to a blaster, some magazines and one old sneaker. The man quietly enters the room, picks up the sneaker and then walks out of frame in search of the other. Off screen we hear him knock something over accidentally. The figure in bed shifts but doesn't wake. After a small pause the old man comes into frame again with the other sneaker in hand. He gets out of the room and walks off-screen behind us. CUT TO a close shot of the figure in bed. We see only his eye as it opens and watches the old man leave. ZOOM IN AND RACK OUT OF FOCUS then FADE TO WHITE. FADE IN TITLE: "Amnesia" FADE TO BLACK.
