Huomenna aion realisoida kudontalaatikon sisällön kuteista tuotteeksi. Sain vihdoinkin aikaiseksi varata kangaspuut kudontakeskuksesta! Laiskanryijy kiikarissa.

Eli roskiin vaan. OK, isoimmat palat säästin, että on sitten seuraavissakin komeronputsaajaisissa jotain poisheitettävää. Kylmä fakta on, etten edes tykkää vaateompelusta.

Amaryllis
Type: Flowering Bulb Latin Name: Liliaceae/Amaryllidaceae So just why do so many people enjoy growing Amaryllis indoors? That's easy! First, they are an easy bulb to grow. Forcing Amaryllis to bloom indoors is a snap. Many garden stores carry them boxed, potted and ready to grow by just adding water. Second, they have big, bright, trumpet shaped blooms cheering up the indoor winter scene. And, third, many people need to grow something during the long winter. For gardeners, winter can be longer than most, so this helps us through the long off season. The word Amaryllis comes from the Greek word for "sparkling". And they do just that, brightening up a spring lawn, or adding color indoors on a cold, drab winter's day. Big, cheerful, trumpet shaped blooms come in red, pink, yellow and a few combinations of these colors. A single flower blooms six to eight weeks after planting. Plants can grow up to two feet. Amaryllis can be grown outdoors in frost free areas. They also can be grown in colder regions. The bulbs need to be pulled up before winter and stored until spring.

How to Grow An Amaryllis... It's not just a Christmas flower
Hippeastrum
October 10, 1999
Nothing can break the gloom, like a bloom in the dead of winter.
Of all of the flowering bulbs, the Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) is the easiest to force into bloom. The large, (up to six inch blooms) showy flowers, and ease with which they can be grown in the home make the Amaryllis extremely popular as a gift plant during the holiday seasons. The Amaryllis comes in many beautiful varieties including shades of red, white, pink, salmon and orange. There are also many multicolored varieties, combining shades of pink or red with white.
The Amaryllis is a tender bulb which originated in the Andes mountains of South America. Therefore, unfortunately, it can only be grown outdoors, year round in USDA zones 9-11 . In other zones, the potted plants may be moved outdoors after the danger of frost has passed but must be brought back indoors in September.
Amaryllis may be purchased as individually packaged or bulk bulbs, but more often are sold in a pre-potted condition. The pre-planted Amaryllis gift boxes normally take no more initial effort than simply watering them with room temperature water to bring them into growth. Avoid getting water on the nose of the bulb. Keep the potting medium moist, but not wet. Don't over-water!

Extension Horticulturist With their prominent stamens, they are an amateur plant breeder's delight, so those who want to experiment ala Gregor Mendel to see what various crosses will yield color-wise couldn't be working with a better plant.

Planting
The large amaryllis bulbs are often purchased in potted kit form with directions included. These potted bulbs require only watering and light to begin growth. Plants which are already growing are available at many flower shops. Plant the bulb so the top one-third to one-half of the bulb is above soil. After planting, water thoroughly and place in a warm, sunny window.

How to Plan Special Flowering Dates
First decide when you want the amaryllis to bloom. The bulbs must be potted up 6 to 12 weeks before that date. For Christmas bloom, start the bulb in October. Begin around Thanksgiving for February Valentine's Day.

Care After Planting
Water thoroughly when the container soil is dry to the touch. Excessive moisture can cause bulb rot. As roots begin to develop and fill the container, the soil will dry more quickly and watering should be adjusted accordingly.

http://gardenline.usask.ca/plants/amaryll.html
The Amaryllis GardenLine House Plants Sara Williams The amaryllis is a tender, flowering bulb, originally from the Andes Mountains of Chile and Peru. The plant was named after a shepherdess in Greek mythology. The word actually means "sparkling" and refers to the attractive bloom. The amaryllis was discovered in 1828 by Eduard Frederich Poeppig, a young physician from Leipzig, on a plant hunting expedition in Chile. Such was Poeppig's delight with his own discovery that he was, in the words of a biographer, "often compelled to relieve his full heart by uttering loud shouts of joy, to which his faithful dog and sole companion and witness of his delight responded with howls of equal delight." Amaryllis bulbs are usually available in the fall and in Saskatchewan are treated as houseplants. The amaryllis is a large plant, growing 46-60 cm (18-24 in.), with blooms 10-15 cm (4-6in.) wide. Colors range from pure white to salmon, pink, and red. Bulbs can be brought into bloom from late fall until early spring, blooming from 6-8 weeks after planting. Given proper treatment, they will continue to bloom for several years, usually in winter. Potting - Purchase large, firm bulbs which show only the scars or stubs of old foliage, but no new leaves. Use a light, well-drained potting mixture containing some peat moss. The pot itself should have good drainage and be about 8-10 cm (3-4 in.) wider than the bulb. The potting mixture should be about 3 cm (1 in.) below the rim of the pot (for ease of watering), and about 1/3 of the bulb should show above the soil level. Firm the soil and water well.
