Minutes of the October 7, 1998, APHIS Alumni Meeting Dr Mussman chaired the meeting. John Kennedy advised that Dr. Isi Siddiqui was the past president of the Plant Board. Dr. Siddiqui was instrumental in raising the level of awareness that problems in California, Wisconsin, Arkansas, etc., are different. He worked toward a unity of coalition and thought in the plant efforts. During his tenure, Dr. Mulhern was attempting to move the Plant Board to be more similar to USAHA and thereby have responsibilities and involvement in trade and universities. The increase in global emphasis points to the need for a world-wide vision. We continued our discussion on the concept of an International Animal/Plant health organization. Currenly in the United States we do not have a joint animal/plant board. Suggest we create a structure and begin by focusing on the issues with a USAHA, APHIS-VS orientation on one side and a Plant Board, APHIS-PPQ on the other. These could operate separately until events provide reasons to combine them both in the United States and internationally. For years the veterinary profession has relied heavily in dealing with endemic and emerging animal diseases by having regular meetings via a large committee structure under an organization known as the U.S. Animal Health Association. This organization was made up of federal regulatory people, state regulatory people, the producer organizations, and individual producers as well as the research community, the academics, and the industry that provides the pharmaceuticals. There was a common interest in participating because all were interested in eliminating existing diseases and preventing others from becoming a problem.

Special Organization License Plate Fact Sheet Why is PENNDOT replacing Special Organization license plates? In December of 1998 Governor Ridge signed a bill into law that called for the replacement of Pennsylvania's old style license plates. This would be the first plate replacement in 23 years. Accordingly, PENNDOT is in the midst of its three-year project of replacing 9 million license plates having a yellow or blue background. Included in this project are 68 Special Organization license plates with blue backgrounds that will be replaced by the new style plate. When will the Special Organization license plate replacement take place? This Special Organization plate replacement was originally scheduled to take place from January 2002 through June 2002. However, PENNDOT was able to move up the process and begin in spring of 2001. What will the new Special Organization Plates look like? Special Organization plates will be made using the same basic design as the new standard-issue plate. PENNSYLVANIA will appear across the top of the plate in white lettering against a blue background. The organization's logo, two stacked letters and five numbers will be embossed (raised) in blue against a white background in the center of the plate. The name of the organization will be embossed in blue lettering against a yellow background across the bottom of the plate and will take the place of the Commonwealth's Web site that appears on the bottom of new standard issue license plates.
