Earth's annual orbit is The Master Clock because the common yardstick of our lives is The Year. Years are divided by the seasons just as calendars are segmented by months. Mechanical and digital timepieces measure intervals that divide and subdivide each spin of our planet on its axis. Yet, it is the Earth's regular, rhythmic loop around the Sun that standardizes our timeframe of reference, regardless of geographic distances separating contemporaries or generational distances separating us from our ancestors.
Our planet moves around the Sun in an elliptical circuit deviating less than a second from one year to the next. Together we proceed through 8 significant, yet invisible, thresholds within each orbit. These spatial milestones mark the beginning, midpoint and end of each of our seasons. Equinoxes Solstices and Cross-Quarters are moments shared planet-wide, defined by the Earth's tilt and position on the ecliptic relative to the Sun, separated from their neighboring cusps by precisely 45 degrees of arc.

6 January 2004. Thanks to W. FBI Intelligence Bulletin No. 102 FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT USE ONLY
TO: Law Enforcement Agencies
FROM: FBI Counterterrorism Division December 24, 2003 Threat Level: Orange (High). THE FBI INTELLIGENCE BULLETIN, DISSEMINATED ON A WEEKLY BASIS, PROVIDES LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH CURRENT, RELEVANT TERRORISM INFORMATION DEVELOPED FROM COUNTERTERRORISM INVESTIGATIONS AND ANALYSIS. THE INTELLIGENCE BULLETIN DOES NOT CONTAIN THREAT WARNING INFORMATION. ITEM I: HSAS THREAT LEVEL RAISED TO ORANGE (HIGH) On December 21, 2003, the Homeland Security Advisory System (HSAS) threat level was raised from Yellow (Elevated) to Orange (High), the second highest level on the HSAS, which characterizes the terrorist threat based on a five-tier scale of threat conditions and corresponding colors: Low (Green), Guarded (Blue), Elevated (Yellow), High (Orange), and Severe (Red). The U.S. Intelligence Community has received a substantial increase in the volume of threat related intelligence reports. Reliable sources suggest the possibility of attacks against the United States by early 2004 that could possibly rival the terrorist attack of September 11 in scope and impact. An FBI Counterterrorism Division communication disseminated via the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System on December 21 provides general guidelines relating to countermeasures law enforcement agencies can adopt in response to the heightened threat condition. Law enforcement agencies are encouraged to remain alert to possible indicators of terrorist planning and to report suspicious activity immediately to the nearest FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

WASHINGTON (AP) The FBI is warning police nationwide to be alert for people carrying almanacs, cautioning that the popular reference books covering everything from abbreviations to weather trends could be used for terrorist planning. In a bulletin sent Christmas Eve to about 18,000 police organizations, the FBI said terrorists may use almanacs "to assist with target selection and pre-operational planning." It urged officers to watch during searches, traffic stops and other investigations for anyone carrying almanacs, especially if the books are annotated in suspicious ways. "The practice of researching potential targets is consistent with known methods of al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations that seek to maximize the likelihood of operational success through careful planning," the FBI wrote.

Carriers to
and the Turnpike Trusts covering roads to Oxford Welcome to Alan Rosevear's website. This site is concerned with road users and turnpikes. If you are interested in milestones go to http://www.mss.milestonesweb.com/index.htm The information in this site is derived from old almanacs that list the road transport services from provincial English towns into London. The original texts are held by the Bodleian Library, Oxford, and the Guildhall Library, London. The turnpike system was crucial to the improvement of roads in England during the 18 th and early 19 th centuries. Information on the turnpike trusts that were responsible for roads in Oxfordshire and the adjoining Upper Thames Valley are included on the website. The original information is taken from Turnpike Acts held by a number of Libraries; the most comprehensive set by the House of Lords Library. - The following pages relating to Carriers and London Inns are currently available: The Carrier's Cosmologie published by John Taylor in 1637. This lists the provincial town from which the carriers start and the London Inn at which they call. There are a few coach services listed. The names of the carriers, coachmen, wagoners and packhorsemen referred to in the services listed in de Laune's "Present State of London" 1681 and 1691.
