Alaska Guidelines
At Wells Fargo, we believe that grant-making decisions are more effective when made locally. That’s why Wells Fargo is actively involved in the communities where we do business, and our employees are leaders in helping our communities build secure financial futures. Wells Fargo has over 1,000 team members located in 29 communities throughout Alaska and contributes over $1.5 million annually to local non-profit organizations. Our philanthropic goal is to partner with charitable organizations that share our vision of making Alaska a better place to work and live, and whose programs and services match our funding priorities. This giving philosophy is based on a commitment our Alaskan founders made more than 85 years ago.
OUR FUNDING PRIORITIES:
The following funding priorities offer guidelines to help us select organizations to support from the thousands of requests we receive each year. By establishing these funding priorities, Wells Fargo is able to focus on those organizations that share our vision for Alaska by building partnerships, promoting volunteerism, and providing resources.

24-HOUR CRISIS LINE - (907) 272-0100
Programs and Services
AWAIC, the largest domestic violence service provider in the state, began as a safe home program in 1977 to provide quality emergency and support services to women and children made homeless by violence. Our mission is to teach people to live and love without violence. We intervene in the cycle of violence with safe shelter for women and their children, support and advocacy for all family members, and community education. We work to empower all those affected by domestic violence so that they can make positive decisions about their lives. AWAIC provides confidential individual and group support for women who have experienced emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse within their intimate or family relationships. Services and programs include:
A Residential Shelter
For women and their children who are being physically and/or emotionally abused. The 52-bed shelter is a safe place for battered women and their children. AWAIC offers safety information, support and advocacy to assist women in making choices for their lives. Women and children, may stay up to three weeks, and attend 10 groups per week with topics ranging from parenting, health, and dynamics of battering to assertiveness and stress management. A 24-hour crisis line, (907) 272-0100, is an integral part of the shelter. Trained staff answers calls and assist with crisis intervention, support, information and referrals.

Help for Individuals The Housing Assistance Council does not offer direct financial assistance to individuals. HAC's loans and other services are directed to local groups that construct affordable rural housing. Individuals are welcome to purchase HAC's publications or attend trainings and conferences, if they wish, but these are targeted to local government and nonprofit developers and therefore may not be of much use to someone who is trying to find housing rather than build it. In general, national organizations help state and local groups, not individuals. Local groups are best suited to helping individuals because they understand the unique characteristics of their communities. National groups may be able to provide you with referrals to local groups or other national groups. They may have mailing lists, lists of groups they work with, a membership list (not all national groups have members), or some kind of directory. Some national groups are very large and do help individuals; they have branch offices or representatives to administer the programs. Christmas in April and Habitat for Humanity are two well-known organizations that operate in this way. The national office of an organization like this would probably give you information about their programs and a referral to their branch nearest to you.
