Here are links to more than 700 women's studies (including "gender studies") programs, departments, and research centers around the world that have web sites. Programs and departments offering graduate degrees or concentrations have this fact noted in an annotation below the link. For a larger list of women's studies programs, including those without web sites, see the September issue of the Modern Language Association's journal PMLA or Gerri Gribi's listing of Women's Studies programs in the U.S. For information about institutions offering Women's Studies graduate and undergraduate degrees online, see Online Degrees in Women's Studies NOTE: After I had started putting this listing together, Kate Robinson told me about an annotated collection of links she has compiled of Women's Studies programs in the United States . I've decided to leave my links up as well, especially since they include programs outside the US , and since I keep learning about new sites. (My listing now includes more than 700 links; I last updated it on March 22, 2004

  • CNN/Money Tax Center NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Ah, after-tax income. Seems you never can have enough. But you might get and keep more of it if you have a tax-friendly address. Now "tax-friendly" doesn't just mean low income taxes or none at all, although that can be quite a boon. There are plenty of other taxes that act as a third hand in your pockets, including property tax, sales tax and investment tax. If you own a company, you also have to consider business taxes. Since U.S. state and local taxation systems often differ, making an apples-to-apples comparison can be tough. But there are studies comparing residents' tax burdens across the United States. Keep in mind that any such study makes certain assumptions and pulls data from specific tax years, which can make a difference in how a place ranks.

The City has received numerous phone calls regarding riders on four wheelers, motorized scooters, and mini-motorcycles driving on streets and bike paths. I encourage parents and other responsible adults to educate our young drivers about being safe. There have been serious injuries over the years as a result of high speeds, unsafe driving, lack of helmets, multiple riders, and disregard for cars, trucks, and pedestrians. Please discuss these topics with your children and neighbors. Bike helmets should be worn for bicycles and motorcycle helmets should be worn for four wheelers, motorized scooters, and mini-motorcycles. Young drivers need to drive at slower speeds. Never exceeding the speed of passing cars. Bike paths are for pedestrians and bicycles and not for motorized vehicles. Four wheelers, dirt bikes, and motor scooters are off road vehicles and can't be legally driven on a roadway, paved or unpaved.

Final comments were filed in response to the PSC June 1998 Order soliciting comments on electric utility industry restructuring. As a result, Interim Report No. 1 was issued by the Task Force in September 1999.

    REVISED
A Guide to Native American Studies Programs
in the United States and Canada
    Robert M. Nelson, Editor
Ten years ago, in the Fall of 1993, the Association for the Study of American Literatures published a 30-page guide to Native American Studies programs in the U.S., compiled and edited by former ASAIL President Franchot Ballinger. This new Guide to Native American Studies Programs in the United States and Canada represents an attempt to update and expand upon Professor Ballinger's pioneering work. In accordance with a 1995 ASAIL resolution, it is being published both in hardcopy form and in electronic form, so as to be available not only to ASAIL members but also to non-members, compliments of the Association. I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable assistance of two SAIL Editorial Assistants, Amy Davidson (1995-96) and Corrie Anderson (1996-97), who in addition to their other duties put in many hours of overtime gathering and regathering, collating and recollating information from a variety of sources including questionnaires, follow-up letters and phone calls, and worldwide websites. Thanks also to Karen Strom at University of Massachusetts, who read the final draft of this guide and provided or corrected many of the URL addresses for program websites. Our dream was to provide a comprehensive survey of U.S. and Canadian Native American Studies programs being offered as majors, minors, and certifications at the baccalaureate level or above, using (with some slight modifications and additions) Professor Ballinger's earlier categories of information on each program. And although we have made a considerable effort to locate, contact, and acquire information about Native American Studies programs (by whatever title: Native American Studies and American Indian Studies are the most common designations, though there are others) at all North American baccalaureate-granting institutions, readers should keep in mind that the

    Alaskan Way Viaduct Scoping Study
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) solicits interest from consulting firms who wish to be evaluated for completing a scoping study. Description of Work:
The proposed project is the Alaskan Way Viaduct on SR 99, in King County, from MP 29.70 to MP 32.00. The purpose of this project is to determine the feasibility of options that address the seismic vulnerability of the Viaduct. Options include at-grade, above grade and below grade solutions. The study will be will be completed 18 months after execution. Alaskan Way Viaduct Scoping Study
    Introduction
    Description Of Expected Project Outcome

The project will evaluate the feasibility, merits, trade-offs, and develop order of magnitude costs of conceptual options to address the seismic vulnerability of the AWV. A fatal flaw analysis will identify options that can be dropped from further consideration in a subsequent environmental review. The role and function of the Viaduct will be identified and considered within the context of the overall transportation regional system/network. In addition, issues, interests, and trade-offs of each option will be identified and documented. The outcome will be a recommendation to retrofit the Viaduct or pursue another alternative. (The specific alternative to retrofitting the Viaduct would be identified in a subsequent environmental review and decision-making process.)

The Public Health Service will also set up Metropolitan Medical Strike Teams (MMST) in each of the original 120 cities designated in the Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Amendment, which receive partial funding from the Nunn-Lugar-Domenici Program. To date, 47 cities have Metropolitan Medical Strike Teams in place. Metro Medical Strike Teams respond on the request of local authorities in charge of the incident. The MMSTs' focus is mass medical treatment and mass decontamination ability. They also facilitate coordination between area medical facilities to assure efficient use of available resources. MMSTs are 129 person teams divided into three groups, each consisting of 43 people. The MMSTs have a diverse makeup, consisting of physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, HAZMAT technicians, and law enforcement officers
