CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Through this course, students will demonstrate progress in the achievement of two NBPTS propositions that form the conceptual framework for advanced preparation programs in the College of Education. This course will enable the student to begin the development of a portfolio that could be submitted for National Board Certification. Proposition 1. Recognize the individual differences of students and plan intervention accordingly. This course will help students recognize and appreciate the role media resources play in tailoring instruction to meet individual needs.

Union Springs Elementary School Union Springs, Alabama Welcome to our School Union Springs Elementary School serves 419 students in Kindergarten through Grade 3. At present, the school staff consists of the principal, the guidance counselor, the library/media specialist, 23 classroom teachers, 16 Chapter I instructional assistants, the school secretary, five lunchroom workers and two custodians. Special-needs students are served as appropriate by a Chapter I counselor and two speech pathologists. The school facility is comprised of 18 classrooms in the main building, a four-classroom Kindergarten building and two mobile classrooms. The school's cafeteria provides ample space for the preparation and serving of meals and has a large stage for a variety of school and community functions. The library/media center, located in the center of the main building, is well-equipped and pleasantly furnished to serve as a focal point for the instructional program. The instructional program is organized in self-contained classes with emphasis on the teaching and learning of the language arts and mathematics. The curriculum also includes a full range of science, social studies, art, music, physical education and computer skills.

The University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine has designed a new online continuing education module called "Bioterrorism and Emerging Infectious Diseases." The Web site, sponsored by the UAB Center for Disaster Preparedness and the School of Medicine's Division of Continuing Medical Education, is designed to provide practicing physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel with resource information and education about rare infections and potential bioterrorist agents. Upon completion of the program, medical professionals are better prepared to identify potential bioterrorist infections or agents, as well as identify common syndromes associated with these diseases or agents.     Auburn High School is a comprehensive 10-12 high school in Auburn, Alabama with an enrollment of 975. AHS offers technical, academic, and International Baccalaureate diplomas, as well as joint enrollment programs with Southern Union State Junior College and Auburn University. Auburn High was ranked in the top 100 public high schools in the nation by the Associated Press based on Advanced Placement test scores, the 125th best public high school in the United States by US News and World Report (out of 22,000), the 135th best non-magnet public high school in the US by Newsweek in June 2003, and the second best educational value in the Southeast by SchoolMatch, as reported in the Wall Street Journal . Some 90% of Auburn High graduates go on to post-secondary education, with 5% of the senior class earning National Merit Finalist or National Achievement Finalist status (fourteen AHS students were National Merit Finalists in 2001). A full quarter of AHS graduates receive academic scholarships to colleges and universities ranging from local schools such as Auburn University and UAB to more national schools such as Duke, Rice, Chicago, Vanderbilt, and Virginia. Recent graduates also attend Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, and Yale.
    Auburn High has one of the oldest and most active National Honor Society chapters in the state, and hosted the National Honor Society National Convention in 1996.
