Air Force Officer Disciplined for Saying
Bush Allowed September 11 Attacks Hijacker Attended US military School By Jerry Isaacs
21 June 2002
A US Air Force officer in California recently accused President Bush of deliberately allowing the September 11 terror attacks to take place. The officer has been relieved of his command and faces further discipline. The controversy surrounding Lt. Col. Steve Butler's letter to the editor, in which he affirmed that Bush did nothing to warn the American people because he "needed this war on terrorism," received scant coverage in the media. Universally ignored by the press, however, was that the officer was not merely expressing a personal opinion. He was in a position to have direct knowledge of contacts between the US military and some of the hijackers in the period before the terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and damaged the Pentagon. Lieutenant Colonel Butler, who wrote in a letter to the editor of the Monterey County Herald charging that "Bush knew about the impending attacks," was vice chancellor for student affairs at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California — a US military facility that one or more of the hijackers reportedly attended during the 1990s. In his May 26 letter to the newspaper, Butler responded to Bush supporters, who had written the paper opposing the congressional investigation into the September 11 events. He wrote:

Tools University of Alabama Corps of Cadets Monument to the University of Alabama Corps of Cadets The University of Alabama, located in Tuscaloosa, adopted a military curriculum in 1860 under the leadership of the school’s president Doctor Landon C. Garland. To help gather information for the development of the university’s new course of study, Garland toured West Point, Virginia Military Institute, the Citadel, and Nashville’s Western Military Institute. After approval of the transformation of the University of Alabama into a military school by the Alabama Legislature, the university had an initial enrollment of 137 cadets. Garland became the superintendent of the University Corps of Cadets, and received the rank of Colonel. Later in the Civil War, John Murfee was named Commandant of Cadets. The newly developed military program of study was implemented under the model used at West Point. The cadets had West Point style uniforms, with gray woolen jackets and pants. To train on the basics of military study, the university cadets had two six pound cannons and antiquated Springfield rifles. Cadet rank for the University of Alabama military students ranged from Cadet Corporal to Cadet Captain, and they learned the basics of such topics as infantry tactics and artillery. The University of Alabama retained its classical subjects of study such as Latin, Greek, Chemistry, Math and Rhetoric. Additionally, the Corps of Cadets was divided into battalions, with four companies in each battalion. The cadets practiced drill on the original university quadrangle.

Elba ..... Small Town - Big Heart
If you are looking for skyscrapers, traffic jams, smog and crowds of strangers ... don't look in Elba, Alabama. But ... if you want friendly people who wave at passing cars, industry that cares about the area it serves and the personal attention that merchants can offer, you have come to the right place.
History Elba began around 1840. A ferry had been started across Pea River thus begetting the town's first name, Bridgeville. In 1850, the town's name was changed to Bentonville in honor of a Missourian who had distinguished himself in service to Alabama in the Creek Indian War of 1814. A town meeting was held in December of 1851 and all present were allowed to put their idea for a name in a large top hat. Mr. Simmons had been reading a biography of Napoleon Bonaparte, who was exiled to the island of Elba, so he entered this name and it was drawn. The name was officially recognized early in 1852 when the State Legislature established a voting precinct including Elba. The same year, Elba was selected to be the county seat of Coffee County by a countywide election. In May 1853, with a population of over 200 persons, Elba elected to become incorporated.
